Is it possible to walk to L' Escargot from Hiriburia going left along the river instead of the GR heading to Harambeltz ?
or
Should we just follow GR and turn left @ Harambeltz ?
Don't want to walk 1.5 km and then return same path if possible , but we do wish to see these lovely hosts again in Uhart-Mixe.

Maybe there is a path or side road following but it is not listed on MMDD
Is there are path along the river from Larribar to U-M ?

No problems if not possible,
Thanks for any assistance from anyone who has walked this section.

Sort of - there is a path, but it does not closely follow the river Bidouze. It leaves the GR65 at Larribar.

A better, and more scenic, option might be to continue to the meeting of the ways at the Stele de Gibraltar at Hiriburua and then follow the GR 65 south to a point about 400 m south of the Chappelle de Soyarza where a path branches off eastwards more or less directly to Uhart-Mixe.

Can I suggest you look at this map? If you put Hiriburua (note spelling) in the search bar it will bring up a very useful map which you can drill down into and which shows both paths I have mentioned.

Bon chemin!

Update - I didn't recognise the name L'Escargot in that area, so I googled it. It's permanently closed.

Further update. I checked with the tourist office in St-Palais. L'Escargot closed two years ago. (Which may account for its absence from the current Miam Miam Dodo)

I haven't used it personally, but the Ferme Gainekoetxea, just south of Ostabat, generally gets very favourable reviews.

See also this map from my 2016 Vezelay guide. Hiriburua is the spot where the light blue/black Le Puy way meets the red/black Vezelay way.

The amount of money we spent there a few years ago obviously contributed to their early retirement 😊
They , as a family , were wonderful hosts.
Sadly being in hospitality i can think of many reasons why they closed .
I just wish them the best .
No, we give the singing Ferme a miss , great CR just out of next village or Ostabat .
Thanks for all the work Glen , very appreciated
Too bad! ... their signs were famous in that part of the GR65.
They were always welcome , from street poles , fence posts or friends homes.

And Ostabat became the centre all those years ago.
Wonderful map , appreciated.
