Hi, I think this is my first post on this website. I walked the Camino Frances in 2017, enjoyed it so much that I've been chomping at the bit to do another. So, I will be walking the Camino Portuguese from Lisbon, somewhere around the end of August to the beginning of September. I say "somewhere around" because I am retired U.S. Navy and plan on flying to Rota Spain then taking a bus to Lisbon to start. Flying Space Available means I'll have no idea when I can catch a flight. I'd love to find others in the same situation, or just anyone that is planning on doing the Camino around the same time period. I am hoping that one of my friends from the Camino Frances will fly from Transylvania to Lisbon to meet up with me, but the more the merrier. By the way, I am a 67-year-old male, married to a wonderful Spanish lady, but she has no desire to walk with me. Oh well...

Not too many pilgrims walking from Lisbon but more than enough wonderful people to meet. If you are staying in albergues get an early start out of Lisbon as the albergue in Alpriate is small and fills up early. There is overflow accommodations provided by the church. It is a nice but very cozy albergue. The closer you get to Porto the more pilgrims you will see. Bring lots of sunscreen and an umbrella as it can get very hot and there are alot of open spaces without relief from the sun/ Alot of road walking. You do not need boots I would recommend buying trail runners a size larger with lots of cushion in the soles.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

It is amazing how many people gravitate from the Frances to the Portuguese, I did 4 years ago since then I have walked the Camino Frances again as well as the Le Puy the Francigena and Stevenson’s Way.
I can honestly say the Portuguese was my least favourite due to so much roadwork and there are much better walks to be had, just got back from the Francigena where I walked 23 days to Rome through the beautiful Tuscany countryside , so much rich history and stunning scenery , leave your options open

I had noticed the Francigena. How far between decent hostels and how well marked is it? Oh, and since I'd probably be going alone, what is the likelihood of meeting other pilgrims?

Accommodation is mostly easy to find , air and bs are also readily available, well signed posted but you have to be observant at times.Did not come across too many other pilgrims which actually made it better So beautiful
