Part of Via de la Plata; and continuing in March 2016
Hi!
I'm from Finland and starting (or rather continuing) my camino in Astorga on 12 Mar 2016, probably at noon when I'll get there from Madrid Barajas! I'm planning to take it easy, hoping to get to SdC by Easter.

Hi Kalliti, wish you well and a Buen Camino, Peter.

Buen camino. Remember that many businesses close at about noon on Saturday and do not open again until Monday (banks and mobile phone stores in particular!). Restaurants and chocolate stores will be open, though. The Bishops Palace and the cathedral have had very unusual hours on my last two visits to Astorga, so check their times early in the day to see when you will have a visiting opportunity.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Thanks falcon, especially reminding me about the weekend opening times in Spain! I plan to handle my Spanish prepaid sim card issues at the airport upon arrival and I think it's a good idea to buy some food in Madrid, too. Then by bus to Astorga and I'll probably walk to Santa Catalina on the first day (10 km). Currently I'm going through sites and apps to find information about albergues which will be open in March (Aprinca / Plantilla seems to be quite good).

That one is regularly updated by volunteers that live on the way, so it is very reliable (in the margin of human error obviously). The good message for winter pilgrims is that the Xunta albergues in Galicia are all open. Buen Camino, SY

Thank you so much SY, that was really valuable information!!!
