Starting Mid April

Hello All,

This will be our third Camino as a family. Our first two were done in 200-mile sections. The children were much younger! This time they will be 12 and 14 years old. Looking to begin Mid April. Ay thoughts as to crossing the Pyrenees during that time? Possible snow? Looks like there will def be rain based on previous posts. Look forward to your advice and thoughts!

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
There is nothing definite about the weather. The Napoleon Pass will likely have snow at the top, it did when I crossed in Mid April. More of a curiousity than a problem. Sometimes that route closes when the weather turns bad. Two days after I went through, it closed for a few days due to snow. The Valcarlos route will always be open as an alternative. I could snow in Roncesvalles, but likely not. You'll be fine. After Zubiri, the chances of snow are minimal. Prepare for strong winds and cool temperatures, and ask for current conditions at the office in SJPP before you set off. You'll have a pretty good guess a few days before you leave from the forecasts, but do be prepared for things to change.

Buen Camino!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
