We are starting the CP from Porto on April 5th and want to get there 2 days earlier. Can anyone suggest a good alburge near the Cathedral?
Thx

It was a little walk but still close enough to the center
2,2 km is just around the corner for a seasoned pilgrim! It's a 2.2km walk from the cathedral.
That's where I have a room booked for 2 in early May! I hope we will be as pleased as you were!I stayed in the hostel Portus Invictus. It was inexpensive and nice, with good breakfast
FWIW I stayed in Best Guest Hostel a couple of years ago for two nights at start of my camino and thought it was possibly the nicest commercial hostel I have stayed in anywhere. Ever!!!I was recommended the Best Guest Hostel - http://www.bestguesthostel.com/en/hostel-in-porto/. I haven't stayed there but it is where I'll be staying when I start in Porto next year. It's close to the station and the Cathedral and looks like good value.

it was €50 each for 2 nights for a twin/double room, with a breakfast that lasted all day as we sneaked some of it into our daypacks...Kirkie, the name alone has scared me off as it SOUNDS expensive!
Well, now you are speaking my language!it was €50 each for 2 nights for a twin/double room, with a breakfast that lasted all day as we sneaked some of it into our daypacks...

please tell me what did you pay at the dorms per bed...thxHi, there are no pilgrim albergues near the cathedral, only backpackers’ hostels, of varying quality. I’ve tried a few, just because they are cheap, but wouldn’t recommend any of the ones I stayed in. For a quiet night you are better off in a pension, if you want to be near the cathedral. I now always stay at the Gallery Hostel http://www.gallery-hostel.com/en/ which is nowhere near the cathedral, but which I can highly recommend, and no need to book one of their private rooms either, as the dorms are great.
