Suitable sleeping bags

Time of past OR future Camino
June 2013
Hi everyone. I am planning to walk to Camino in June and slowly buying my gear. I was wondering what temperatures are like throughout June and if anyone has recommendations of sleeping bags that are light and weather relevant for June temperatures (and if there are no beds will I be sleeping outside occasionally)?

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
You will find a lot of warm/hot and humid nights, where you will want only enough cover for modesty. Almost all albergues have blankets, though you may have to ask in the summer. They are not always on the beds.

Being forced to sleep outside is not common. It is most likely if you cannot afford a private accommodation when all the albergues are full. There has been quite a build-up of albergues from 2010 to the present. It has made it much easier to avoid the bed race, at least on the Camino Frances. A bit of flexibility will be required; you may have to walk from albergue to albergue, so save enough energy at the end of the day to do that. Staying in smaller places that are not the standard stopping points in the guides also will help.

Buen camino.

Thanks for getting back to me falcon269. It poses another question then - do I need to take a sleeping bag at all? Would a sleep sheet be enough? Is the bag extra weight I won't need?

A selection of Camino Jewellery
I would go with a silk or nylon sleep sack. Only you know if you need to be toasty warm when sleeping! Most of the time in June, it was so hot for me that I slept with as much of me outside the sleep sack as decency would allow.

There is a rather nice hot weather sleeping bag that can open out fully - into a rectangle - if wanted as just a loose cover and also has a net insect screen that can be zipped over the face aperture .... nice and light, 850gms, and packs small - quite cheap too. Comfort 7, extreme 2.

Snugpak supply our UK military so they also have this bag identical for the army but in olive - in places such as http://www.nightgear.co.uk/Snugpak-Adventure-Gear-Snugpak-Jungle-Bag-Sleeping-Bag-Olive/32594ngp.htm

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
