I can come whenever and struggling to decide when, Will be my first camino, I am double vaccinated from the UK. I am not sure whether to wait until next Spring or to come ASAP and risk being sent home if the delta variant gets worse. Reading these forums it seems a lot of people have booked for September time. I really wanted to have a camino experience involving communal meals and lots of socialising, there were some albergues I really want to stay at that are closed still due to bed capacity restrictionsThe Camino needs you.
Yesterday I only saw 4 pilgrims in 26 kms from Ventosa. Most albergues and cafes are still closed with those open desperate for pilgrims.
I know many still cannot travel to Spain but it is possible from most of Europe and even from the UK where I came from it is possible.
So come on especially you oldies like myself, there are only a very few here, it is time to come out from behind the sofa and live again, they are waiting in Spain.!
So sorry, both for you, and for our beloved lands of walking. With extreme sadness, i cancelled my plans for this year.
As of now, travelers returning from Portugal have to enter a 14 day quarantine in Germany. Vaccination and tests have no influence on the number of days.
Unfortunately i belive, spain will soon follow this ruling, since the Delte mutation is on the up there aswell (like everywhere in europe, including germany)
Sadly, i can't risk the 14 days of quarantine at this moment. So this is going to be another year of no camino for me. Which sucks, honestly. It is most likely worse for the people over in Spain and Portugal, that where hoping on this years revenue. Or might get sick from this spreading mutation.
Sorry for my language, but this virus is frustrating the heck out of me.
There is no border just a cattle grid.I'm coming!
I'll arrive in Pamplona tomorrow with an eye towards starting in SJPDP or Roncesvalles on Friday. Ron, did you start in SJPDP? Any difficulty with the border crossing?
Well said. You are absolutely correct, @Tincatinker : The Camino will always be there. It is timeless, not caring about (our) temporary difficulties that will pass. It is majestic. The Camino needs you? The Camino doesn’t need you. The Camino is a simple, holy, road- a thousand wandering paths all with one destination. The businesses that line those paths might need your €’s. The Albergues, the bars, the hostels and the Tourismos might welcome your presence but the Camino? The Camino, the Journey , the Way, the Road- it doesn’t give a monkey’s about you. The pilgrimage is: the rest is just stuff.
An interesting idea. If pilgrims were to suddenly stop walking tomorrow and not resume walking would the Camino still be there? The routes would still be there, the many paths pilgrims have walked for centuries up until this time. But do the routes and paths themselves make a Camino? Or is it the combination of path and pilgrim following it that makes a pilgrimage and a Camino? I think there is no pilgrimage without pilgrims, and no pilgrimage means no Camino. The Camino needs you? The Camino doesn’t need you. The Camino is a simple, holy, road- a thousand wandering paths all with one destination. The businesses that line those paths might need your €’s. I start walking from Burgos on July 9. Coming up fast, but not fast enough. The Camino needs you.

Just wondering if your reply was purposefully pedantic and/or grouchy...The Camino needs you? The Camino doesn’t need you. The Camino has existed for 1.200 years. It is a road to Santiago. Without any pilgrims, it will still be there. Laying still, waiting for us.An interesting idea. If pilgrims were to suddenly stop walking tomorrow and not resume walking would the Camino still be there? The routes would still be there, the many paths pilgrims have walked for centuries up until this time. But do the routes and paths themselves make a Camino? Don't get your foot stuckThere is no border just a cattle grid.
Claire, your post pretty much echoes my thoughts at present. The Camino seems to get further away for me with new variants, increasing cases etc not withstanding the fact I have had both vaccinations.I personally am not prepared to travel unless the situation becomes a lot clearer and the risk of a something even more serious occuring whilst on the Camino is possible.I can come whenever and struggling to decide when, Will be my first camino, I am double vaccinated from the UK. I am not sure whether to wait until next Spring or to come ASAP and risk being sent home if the delta variant gets worse. Reading these forums it seems a lot of people have booked for September time. If conditions remain “stable” there wil be many more pilgrims from other countries starting late August.- October. The Camino needs you.

I'm obviously not @Kathar1na, but here is a place for you to start looking on your own, fromcan you please look it up for all those scared couch potatoes out there?
Hostels accommodation
Reduction of capacity in hostels
During the health crisis, the hostels on the Camino de Santiago can modify their offer of places to adapt to the different regulations, vary their opening date or even remain closed. Updated information on these issues can be found in the "Camino de Santiago" mobile phone application of the National Geographic Institute.
Ireland still does not have ready our EU Covid Digital Certs. Our public health advice continues to be non essential travel and we expect this to be removed July 19. Given the heat on the CF, this Irish pale skinned gal needs to wait until Sept to walk but coming I am to walk my first Camino in Spain. The Camino needs you.

100% agreeAn interesting idea. If pilgrims were to suddenly stop walking tomorrow and not resume walking would the Camino still be there? Nice distinction. Neither the routes or the means of transport define the pilgrimage. They are merely a reflection of history testifying to the longevity of “La peregrinación a Santiago”.An interesting idea. If it's that quiet on Camino Frances, I guess I will be very lonely on Camino Norte when I start in 3 weeks. The Camino needs you.

Failte, are you planning to start SJPDP? If so our paths may cross as I’m planning same start date (just waiting to have that Covid cert before I book flight from Dubkin). Buen CaminoI'm a fellow pale skinned Irish female, and will be starting my first Camino on 1st September.
I lost my job yesterday, and would love to go immediately, but need to wait as there is no way my skin will be able to handle the heat.
On the plus side, having no job means I can spend the next 2 months getting plenty of training in, so I'm grateful for that.
Although, I believe the first half of September will be fairly hot also. It will be factor 30 suncream for me all the way I'd say lol
Hi Meazara. Yes I am, planning to go all the way from SJPdP to Finisterre, so we will surely meet.Failte, are you planning to start SJPDP? If so our paths may cross as I’m planning same start date (just waiting to have that Covid cert before I book flight from Dubkin). Buen Camino

We are lockdown in Australia and not permitted to travel overseas unless there are exceptional circumstances.
It certainly beckoned me! Mind you, it could have been the fingerAt first glance reading this I was like "how dare you sir!", then realized perhaps you're right. The Camino sits there like it always has, just minding its own business. However I still believe that the Camino isn't 100% impartial. It will beckon you, make no mistake.

September I'm headed out. Sure hope we'll have places to stay. It may get exciting otherwise.I will be there September 16th in Madrid, where I will take a train to Pamplona. My second Camino. The first one started in Sarria three years ago. I will move up to SJPdP on my third Camino, or maybe drop down and do Portugal.
I can't wait. Jose, who hosts the Camino People podcast, suggested I track him down in Pamplona and he will show me around, so I am hoping I can arrange that. Meanwhile, I have been backpacking up in the Blue Ridge Mountains to get in shape.
I so look forward to being on the Camino again. Here are some pictures from day one back in 2018.View attachment 103767View attachment 103768View attachment 103769View attachment 103770
