The Camino provides . . . . underwear

Camino Frances and Norte on 2-way cycle Summer 2016
Camino de Gran Canaria Feb 2019
Following from last week’s underwear thread, I should report being a victim of underwear disappearance on my trip this summer. @SYates was not to blame, it was quite mysterious but there was wonderful outcome. I was cycling (but not taking the easy option; starting and finishing in the north of Ireland) and for reasons that seasoned readers of this forum will understand, I had merino boxers, two pairs. I left Pamplona on Friday with them packed in a pannier bag. I was with the bike and bags all day but on arrival in Logroño, both pairs were missing.

There is no logical explanation; supernatural intervention is the most likely. The witches of Sorginaritzaga forest are the main suspects but it is no longer possible to put them on trial to discover the truth.

Replacements of any type were difficult to find. On Saturday, everywhere was closed in Logroño for the festival of San Bernabé. On Sunday everywhere was closed. In Santo Domingo de la Calzada on Monday, all shops were open except those which sell ropa interior – Monday is closing day for men’s outfitters. On the next day, there were no shops on a side trip to San Millán de la Cogolla. By Wednesday, the cycling shorts were a little over used but there was salvation in the market in Belorado. Not only did they sell men’s underwear but even more appropriate, there was a label which makes them almost as valuable as the Compostela:

If you were without clean undies for 5 days that find must have become a very sweet camino not only for you but also any companions on the road!
