Arriving in Santiago on the 9th after 37 days from SJPP.
Have (touch wood) only put on the poncho and wet pants for 2:45 minutes -- Las Herrerias to O Cebreiro, stopped as soon as we got to the top. Amazing !!!
NOW needing some amazing place to stay in Santiago for a few days and contemplate if walking to the end of the world is what my body needs.
Any suggestions ???

Hi Gail and Ed

On my 3 Caminos I have stayed at Albergue San Lazaro. You´ll find it just as you come down from Monte de Gozo and just enter Santiago de Compostela. There is a roundabout as you come into Santiago you´ll find it on the right. You can catch a bus every 20 mins. to town center. They supply you with real bedsheets and pillow case and even give you a town for your shower .And you can stay there up to 3 days.Check it out, it´s worthwhile. Here´s the link http://www.gronze.com/albergues/camino-frances/albergue-san-lazaro-santiago-de-compostela.htm

Buen Camino!

Hi Gail and Ed,

While I can't recommend a specific place to stay, I can tell you on my 3 arrivals in SdC I ended up in very nice places for my tastes. I don't require much so I'm not much help there.

However, I would like to encourage you to walk to the sea. It really is a great journey and one almost entirely different than what you've already experienced. I say this because most walkers stop in SJPdP, the scenery is beautiful, and the elation which comes from seeing the ocean from so far away at one point is unmatched. Whether you walk directly to Fisterra or to Muxia first (or other way around), if your body allows, I promise you will have no regrets. Spending a night or two there to catch sunset near the lighthouse is breathtaking and quite emotional. Also very romantic. :)

Whatever you choose, congratulations on your last few days on your Camino.

Keep a smile,
Simeon

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hospederia San Martin Pinario.
Right across from the Cathedral.
Call ahead and reserve a "PILGRIM" room.
Lovely full buffet breakfast included.
Beautiful place!

Annie, do you remember the cost for a pilgrim room? (easier to ask you than email them!)

€20 for the Pilgrim rooms is what I remember from July of this year.

Most pilgrim rooms are singles at 23 Euros. Ask about these when you email your query. for space to this address >> reservas@sanmartinpinario.eu. Do NOT use their on-line booking form which is only for more expensive and more elegant tourist accommodation.

I stayed in simple pilgrim rooms in 2011 and December 2012 and found it comfortable and most convenient. They are open 24/7 so that you can arrive at anytime, the obliging desk staff are multi-lingual, WiFi is free, there are multiple public spaces for casual conversation and the restaurant (open to all) serves a very good 3 course lunch or dinner with wine for only 12 Euros. What more does a tired pilgrim need?

My daughter and I spent our night in Santiago at 'The Last Stamp' albergue. This establishment is new this year and was very comfortable, with cotton sheets and duvets - pure bliss. We slept in a room of four sleeping cubicles, each with electrical points and attached to our dorm was a side room with double bed. It is situated in the heart of Santiago, close to the cathedral and cost 15 euros per night and I think pilgrims could stay more than one night. See here http://www.thelaststamp.es/en/

hello gail & ed,

you can also stay in our albergue (110 berth) as you enter santiago. from the san lazaro church towards the camino route, turn left at the traffic light and walk down the hill, (a 3-5 minutes walk). you will pass the police station on your right and the albergue is right next to the police station. name is albergue fin del camino, a saint james foundation pilgrim albergue. you can stay as long as you want until the 16th in which we close for the winter month. you can drop your rucksack off if you want to go to town right away. the cathedral is a 25 minutes walk on the camino frances route. also bus no 11 go to town at a cost of 1 euro (bus stop right at the corner of albergue).

enjoy your camino. buen camio and god bless.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Thank you to all with suggestions.
Both Gail and myself have found the journey tiring yet amazing. The people we've met along the way, of all nationalities, friendly and warm, open and happy to be part of the experience. So any have said this will not be our last Camino and at this stage it looks like we will be "walking to the end of the world !!"
We thank you all.
