The good, the bad and the camping

Does anybody have any advise on camping? Am starting from St. Jean Pied de Port next sunday and have decided to grin and bear the extra weight of the tent. My traveling friend will probably use the Alberque so proximity for camping may be an issue.
Any advise?

In three caminos, I do not know if I have seen more than a dozen campers. Many albergues would not, I think, have facilities or places for campers. I do not think that you could count on finding albergue-proximate camping spots for many of the albergues in village or town centres, or older albergues. Others will likely have more to say on this.

We just had a pair of Belgians stop here on their way home from Santiago. They walked from Burgos to Finisterre and camped almost the entire way in their little tent. They did not usually stay in established ´campings´ but often outside albergues, in parks or fields or peoples´ gardens. It was all a matter of asking nicely, they said.

Go for it.
