I am intrigued by a new book, well, new for me, it was written in 2006, entitled "The History of Galicia" by Sharif Gemie, professor at the University of Glamorgan in Wales. Mostly the history of modern nationalism and an account of the desire for separtism , a subject still bubbling as anyone who has been lucky enough to be in Santiago in May for the "Feria del Ganado" fiesta, a festival which offers a particular insight into the "claimed" Celtic roots of Galicia and features a significant amount of Celtic folk music, the gaita de fol bagpipes, and the local "orchestra" encamped on the sreet as well as dancing.
Castrojeriz is one of my favorite places, I enjoyed the hospitality and food in the tavern mentioned by Hape Kerkeling, I love the sporting goods shop and the yellow albergue in the square, and the first time amazement from that sudden climb straight up to the maeseta.
I now know that most French scholars spelled Castrojeriz as Quatre-Souris (four mice) but I didn't see any, or Quarte-Siris, the Germans visited a settlement called Castre Sorig while the Italians stopped over at Castel Soriz. Funny world the Camino, it "brings together different nationalities, different classes amd people fired by different emotions".
Good book
