Thinking of those who walk for less happy reasons

Prentiss Riddle

Aprendiz de todo, maestro de nada
Time of past OR future Camino
Português and/or Francés in 2023
My Camino obsession has made me feel like a kindred spirit to anyone who undertakes a long walk, including those who do so out of desperation. So I have been very moved by Shannon Jensen's photos of the shoes of war refugees. Many of these people walked for 30 days, just about the length of the Francés.

I hope I will remember these the next time I'm inclined to complain about my own blisters.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Food for thought here! Thank you Prentiss Riddle, for posting this!

Last night I watched a program about those desperately waiting in Calais hoping to get to the UK. One was a female doctor who had to flee because the local morality vigilantly squad came to the hospital with the intention of killing her (because she is female). She was not at the hospital at the time, so they killed all her patients instead.

But, relevantly to this thread, I felt so sad when I saw the children with outgrown shoes. They had to make do with their shoes cut open at the back, and their heels unprotected from the ground. Some had walked extraordinary distances like that.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
And many of those wearing such shoes are living just blocks away from us, keepimg warm on a subway went or entrance. Not only do they sipuffer from hunger, but from being outcasts and often mentaly ill.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Thank you for this sobering post.
It is humbling in the light of our "weigh the options" questions. I went to the link and saw that photo #2 is from a 70 year old.

Hello all. Here to give a brief account of my (and many others) first day on the Camino on May 1. The trip to Roncesvalles was tough. I went Valcarlos route because napoleon was very ill advised...
Did you meet Bjørn Krohn? Died aged 48 in an albergue, I don't know where, tuesday 21th. I didn't know this until now.
Seems to be a lot of people posting about stuff they lost on the Camino recently. I managed to leave a nice new-ish polo shirt somewhere drying and didn't notice for over a week. I hope someone...
I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
Can anyone tell me if food is available there… anyone stayed recently? Cheers
