Topo maps of Spain as web service

And, for my 1,000th post . . .
The Spanish mapping authorities have been busy setting up large amounts of data as web mapping services (WMS) - other countries, please note! This includes the IGN topo maps, which I've set up as a 'slippy map' at http://petersmaps.googlepages.com/ol_mtn.html - the new edition covers some 80% of the country.
I've also included the PNOA aerial photographic survey of Spain.
If you want to explore the available data, there's a simple WMS viewer at http://www.idee.es/clientesIGN/wmsGener ... ml?lang=EN

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Thank you Peter, I've just spent a happy couple of hours following the Camino Ingles from A Coruna to Sugueiro and imagining. I love maps!!

Is it possible to print off useful amounts? I guess it would be more sensible to buy a paper map once on the spot - I've certainly learnt that its cheaper to but the french IGN maps en route rather than get them from some website beforehand!

Many thanks again

Bridget

not unless you have a large printer :) The standard desktop printer can only manage A4, which isn't a very large area as maps go. You could print out large numbers of A4 sheets and then stick them together, but then you have the problem of aligning them properly etc. If you want a printed copy, IMO it's much simpler to buy a paper version in the shops, though it must be said Spanish maps aren't as widely available as in say GB or France (and they're also not the world's greatest maps).

I see these online maps as complementary to paper ones, rather than replacing them. I have the equivalent for OS at http://maps.peterrobins.co.uk/gb.html and the French IGN service is currently in beta - probably available next year some time.
