Transfer from Madrid Airport

I have read that there is a shuttle bus from Madrid airport to central hotels. Is there? I have only found a van shuttle service - Viator - for about $28. Has anyone found anything cheaper?

I would rather take a shuttle bus if there is one. Don't want to take the Metro - got robbed there last time and not anxious to return.Thanks for any information you can give me.

I don't know if this is the bus you mean, traveling-to-from-the-camino/topic9474.html because its main destination is Atocha, but it does have a stop at the Plaza de Colon. So, depending on where you are staying that bus could be a good option.

There is also a Madrid city bus that goes directly from the airport to the Avda de Americas bus station, where there are some accommodation options as well.

What part of the city will you be staying in? Have you considered going straight from Barajas to Atocha on the new bus, and getting right on a train, and then spend a day in Huelva to get over jet lag ibefore you start to walk?

Thanks Laurie, that's the one I remember reading... Was thinking of Madrid central, either Bruna or Persal.

Now that you mention it, might not be a bad idea to get right on a train at Atocha and go to Huelva. I Had planned one day in Madrid and one in Huelva, but would be relaxing to spend 2 in Huelva too. Thinking, thinking...

The old 89 bus route to Plaza Colón has been discontinued and replaced by the Exprés Aeropuerto (Airport Express), a 24-hour service which has only 3 stops after the airport: O'Donell, Plaza de Cibeles and Atocha (this last stop only during the daytime hours between 6 am and 11.30pm). The buses run every 15 minutes during the day and every 35 at night, and the journey takes approximately 40 minutes. Tickets cost 2 euros and may be bought on board. There are stops at terminals T1, T2 and T4.
