I have been section hiking the Camino Frances. I hiked SJPP to Burgos in 2018 and Burgos to O'Cebreiro in 2019 and am finally getting back to finish it all on the 23rd.

I have checked all the usual suspects for transport from Santiago to O'Cebreiro (it's about 40km past Sarria on the same bus route). I can only find a single bus per day that leaves half an hour before I arrive.

I've tried rome2rio.com, alsa.es, monbus.es and renfe.es. Have I missed anything? Does anyone know a better way to get there or do I have to kill a day in Santiago?

I'm happy to walk up from Pedrafita if necesary but can't find buses there either.

Thanks all.

Buen Camino

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I suppose you mean the 23rd of October as your starting day which is a Saturday?

Alsa has four buses on that day, the first leaving Santiago at 8:00 and the last leaving at 21:30 and arriving in Pedrafita do Cebreiro at 00:50.

For Pedrafita to O Cebreiro itself you either have to walk or take a taxi. If you spend the night in Pedrafita, your host may offer to drive you in the morning.

There is only one daily bus that serves O Cebreiro directly: Santiago->O Cebreiro, arriving around 14:00.

Rome2Rio has some problems with distinguishing O Cebreiro from Piedrafita do/del Cebreiro as such. Also, the online timetables call it sometimes Piedrafita (Spanish) and sometimes Pedrafita (Galician). Same with Cebrero and O Cebreiro.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

If you do walk from the bus stop in
Piedrafita to O Cebreiro it will take about 1 hour. You can follow the rua Observatorio and then Lu 633.

Thanks Kathar1na, they weren't there last time I looked or perhaps I just failed to find it, but it felt like there should be more options.

I walked down from O Cerbeiro to Piedrafita when I finished my stint in 2019, it was quite a pleasant walk and a good start to my journey back to Madrid. I changed buses in Pontferrada.

Thanks

You could try looking for options to Villafranca del Bierzo as it is a larger town not far past O Cebreiro and then taxi or local bus back from there. It is more roundabout but may save you an extra overnight stay.

WE WERE FORTUNATE TO USE blablacars. A small car with four people w/packs, an electric organ and an amp. Tight fit, great trip!
