I walked the Frances route in late August to September last year.

For those who have started in mid May, what typical weather can be expected? I am doing it again this year

May is often lovely weather but it is unpredictable. The only time you can be reasonably confident of the weather on the Camino is the depth of winter - when it is almost certain to be cold, cold, cold, and the middle of summer when it is almost certain to be hot, hot, hot. I say "almost" because there are exceptions.

The Camino traverses mountain ranges and the meseta, which is a high plateau. The highest point between SJPDP and Roncesvales is 1,430 metres, Burgos at the start of the meseta, has an elevation of 859 metres and the Cruz de Ferro an elevation of about 1,500 metres. That means it is always possible to get unseasonable weather.

Having said that, I've walked the Camino Frances starting at SJPDP on 1st May and we had glorious sunny weather right up until we hit Galicia - when we had a few showers.
