Traveling to Camino del Norte

Time of past OR future Camino
del Norte (May-June 2017)
Hello,
I am flying in to Barcelona. And I am wondering which mode of transportation will get me to Irun in the most expedient way to begin the Camino del Norte -- bus or train?
Thank you,
memalina

I took the train to San Sebastian, a nice way to recoup from jetlag and a night in a hopping albergue. From the San Sebastian train station it's about 15km to Irun. There are buses and trains, and if none of their schedules work for you, a taxi will not be expensive. I second the Rome2rio.com recommendation.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

San Sebastian Airport EAS is located in Irun. There are flights from Barcelona.

Renfe train travels from Barcelona to Irun. Last time I looked there were two trains daily. It might work better to take train to Pamplona (of which there are several), then CONDA (ALSA) bus to San Sebastian, then Renfe Cercanias (commuter train) to Irun. The bus station in San Sebastian is co-located with the Renfe station.

SNCF trains travel from Barcelona to Irun/Hendaye with transfer at Toulouse.

There is bus service from Barcelona Sants and Barcelona Estacio Nord to Irun. Vibasa (Monbus) is direct. ALSA would involve transfers at Zaragosa and Pamplona (the schedule would require staging).

I third the Rome2rio. We took the earlier train and then the bus. Pleasant train and bus ride.
