Walking in my Mum's memory

Time of past OR future Camino
(May 2013)
Hey everyone! I'm Paul from Dublin, Ireland.
My Mum died recently and she completed the Camino last year with my Dad. My Dad and I are going to walk it in her memory in May as she was a big believer and promoter of it.
Started training this week and have done over 12k three times this week so will push on and hope for more as the weeks progress.

Paul, I'm so sorry for your loss. It is devasting to lose a parent. I am coming up to the one year anniversary of my own Mum's passing and am still very much missing her.

I think it is wonderful that you and your Dad will make this journey together to honour your Mum and hopefully find some peace and comfort in doing so, especially doing so together. Buen Camino to you both. Perhaps I'll see you en route. I start in Burgos on May 12.

Sheesh

Thanks for your nice words Sheesh and sorry for your loss too. It's difficult but I know my Mum would be delighted that my Dad and I are going together and in her memory.

We haven't decided where we're starting yet but will do in the next week or so. Hopefully see you too :)

Hello Paul, my sincere condolences on the loss of your mother and best wishes to you and your father on your plans.

Myself and another Irish member of the forum, independently of each other will be leaving St Jean on Thursday 23rd May so if your plans overlap then keep an eye out, I'm planning on staying in L'Esprit du Chemin in St Jean on the 22nd.

Buen camino

Seamus

Hi Seamus, thank you also for your kind words. Myself and my Dad are planning on starting in Leon or Astorga at the end of April and walking to Santiago de Compostela in two weeks so we probably won't bump into you, unfortunately. Enjoy your time on the camino though!

Paul

What a wonderful tribute to your mother, best of luck! Cheryl from the USA leaving St Jean on the 5th!
Buen Camino

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Hi, Paul,
Please accept my condolences on your loss, I know that sounds trite, but I mean it with my heart. As a 62 year old who walks a Camino every year, this is a real topic for me as I confront my mortality, and I think there is no more fitting way to remember your mother. My 27 year old son (who has walked the Camino from St. Jean) and I have had a conversation about this, and we both have agreed that walking a Camino in the other's memory is what we would most want. You will have many many opportunities to remember and pray for your mother on the Camino, and I hope it brings you peace.
Buen camino to you and your dad, Laurie

I dedicated each day of my Camino to someone I knew who has died. When I was struggling I thought how lucky I was to still be alive and fit enough to walk. I'm 67. I'm continuing this summer and my last day will be dedicated to Amy who died from cystic fibrosis in her first term at university.she would have loved the Camino.
