Water poisoning around Portomarin?

Hola everyone,

I just wanted to ask if there were any pilgrims who have walked the Camino Frances that had stomach problems in or around Portomarin.

Its just that I remember several of my friends back in 2007 picking up stomach bugs they thought came from drinking water from the fountains. Now more recently, another friend, walking through Portomarin picked up a bug that floored her and ended her Camino after drinking fountain water.

Not to panic anyone, but just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced similar probelms passing through this area?

Regards
Greg

Greg, I sent your post to my friend Gordon Bell who owns Casa Banderas at Villach a couple of kms before Portomarin. This is his reply:

Portomarin 2 years ago had a rocket from the Xunta for poor water quality and thus improved their standard. There have been any number of people suffering a tummy bug, but not from the water. Remember the massive numbers of people walking from Sarria and the likelihood of bad of bad food. Quite possibly a bad caldo Gallego in Sarria would manifest itself in Portomarin. There is a bar at the top of pilgrim road opposite the square with the police station which did this for a friend a couple of years ago.
