Badajoz Jacobea has posted a weather warning for this weekend. The forecast is 38ºC in Cordoba this Sunday. Check the forecast near you:

In some ways, this has been an exceptional year for weather - Rainy and cold in April and hot already in early May. But extreme heat is the norm. during the summer in southern Spain, so let's be careful out there.

Before you set off:
- Check weather report for the day
- Plan your walk to avoid the max. heat after 1pm (set off early)
- Drink 0.5L water (or whatever you can manage)
- Fill your water bottles / system
- Verify that your mobile phone battery is charged
- Apply sun cream
- Inform someone of your plans (Text message to Camino association angels, phone call to next accommodation)
- Download the AlertCops app to your phone and store the emergency number 112 in your memory

During your walk:
- Drink water regularly (don't wait to feel thirsty)
- Refill water system at every town or village
- Reapply sun cream every few hours
- Wear your sunhat and use your hiking umbrella / parasol
- Don't hesitate to contact Guardia Civil if you encounter difficulties

(Copied this post from the Mozarabe forum, since it applies equally to the VDLP. I hope that's OK).

This is great advise for any camino. My friend walked the VDLP in September and October last year as I was walking the Norte. We had met on the CP the year before. I was eating breakfast at San Martin Pinario and looked up and there he was! He said it was brutal and walking after one ws not only bad but could be deadly as someone died on the camino as he walked. I will do the VDLP one day but plan on leaving no later than March 1.

This is great advise for any camino.
Thanks. It's because of the fatal incident last year, that I wanted to share this message now.
The warnings about extreme heat could be applicable everywhere, but VDLP and Camino Mozarabe are especially challenging because of the long distances without facilities and the absence of other people. Fortunately, the local people and the Guardia Civil are ready to help us and we shouldn't wait for our problems to become a crisis before we call for help.

A selection of Camino Jewellery
I might add get a torch if you're starting before dawn. In 2016, the markers were not so numerous for the first week and we did a bit of backtracking in the dark trying to find markers.
