What are the best guide books?/out of way places/ October Ca

What are the best guide books, or can you give recommendations of those charming a little out of the way places, towns, albergues, churches, places to stay, unique etc.. Will be going in October. Also what should the weather be like? Thanks

October, if it is anything like April when I've walked, will give you the whole 9 yards of weather.
Occasional beautiful days when shorts and a T shirt are all you need in the afternoon, but frosty mornings when you need a hat that covers your ears, and gloves.
Expect snow, but it won't last more than a day.
Cold rain that penetrates to the bone. Worse than the snow, really.
And lots of fine days when you will wonder what all the commotion is about, and why you brought your winter woolies.

If you are planning to stay in pilgrim albergues you should be aware that after mid October many will close for the season. However the welcome at those albergues which are open is often most sincere since the throngs of summer will have passed. Those open will usually be heated and/or have blankets, but not all. Generally the hospitaleros know who is open on the next stage.
