Where to stay at St Jean Pied de Port?

I leave Australia on Sunday for the Camino Frances, I will be travelling alone and have tried to find accommodation at SJPDP without any success. It appears most places seem to be booked out! Does anyone have any suggestions??

Join our full-service guided tour of the Basque Country and let us pamper you!
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hi Ginny,
I'm leaving for my camino in 2 weeks tomorrow and have booked a B&B in St Jean after the usual one everyone recommends failed to respond to 3 emails I sent them (L'Esprit du Chemin). You could try the link below, click on the various little bed icons in the box. I found accomodaton at the one called 'camino'. Good luck with your camino, I am now counting the sleeps!

cheers Jane :)

The Pilgrims Office will help you find something, and I would try going there as soon as you arrive. There will possibly be chambre d'hotes around that have space. It may just be that you will need to be prepared to pay a little more for that initial night's accommodation.
All the best.

Hello Ginny,
If you can't find anything at SJPP you may want to consider walking up to Huntto (about 5-6 km) up the path on the way to Roncesvalles. Again - as suggested earlier - check at the Pilgrims' Office. They will phone up for you to make sure there is space. Staying there takes a nice bite out of your journey the next day and you'll meet about 20 others around the dining room table that night (as you probably would in SJPP too). The price includes your dinner and breakfast. I definitely recommend it if you have the daylight time for the walk but don't go up without checking at the Pilgrims Office because it's almost certain that the next spot, Orisson, will be fully booked and there's nothing else until you get to Roncesvalles.
Buen camino

I don't know if you can get a reservation or not but the best accommodations experience of my Camino this past April and May was at L'Esprit du Chemin run by a Dutch couple:

http://www.espritduchemin.org

If you do stay with them say Hi from me I was the first credential that they stamped this year.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
L’Esprit du Chemin does accept reservations. All you have to do is email your names and arrival date/method and whether or not you would like dinner to hubertarno@espritduchemin.org. I made my reservation for Sept 18th a few days ago--sent the email before bed in the US and had a confirmation by the time I woke up in the morning. Good luck!!

I forget the name, but there is a great old hotel which backs on the Nive on the right side of the main drag just before the bridge (travelling in the direction of Espagne). Run by a charming lady and with a pretty good restaurant. If you are having a hard time finding a place, try the office de touriseme.
