Which part of the Camino de North?

Hi All,

Thank you for replying. This is my third times. Did twice CF. This time planning to start from Oviedo to Santiago. I only have 15 days. Any advices which part the de north i shouldnt miss. Or what is the best plan to get most out of de north that i I don't miss the beauty of its nature.

Hi Amir,

The walk from Oviedo to Santiago is the camino "Primitivo", which has it's own sub-section on this forum. It's a very beautiful walk, through the hills and mountains of Asturias and Galicia. It's more physically demanding than the Frances, but also more rural and there are fewer pilgrims. It's allegedly the "original" camino, the path used by King Alfonso II in the 9th century.

15 days should give you just enough time to do the whole thing, so you won't need to miss any parts!

Some people continue the Norte from Oviedo via Aviles, so it's also an option.

They're in Spanish, but if you click on each "etapa" (stage) you'll get lots of information about distances, accommodation, etc, which should be easy to understand (or nothing Google Translate couldn't help with). Otherwise there is obviously lots of information on this forum!

Yes as Csutak says (the post came in while I was writing), you can also walk up from Oviedo to join the Norte (which runs along the coast), but it would take you longer to reach Santiago. Also, for the first two days you'd be walking through the outskirts of cities (Oviedo, Gijon, and Aviles), so you'd have to wait a couple of days before reaching the "beauty of nature". You might enjoy walking along the sea, and the path is not as physically challenging as the Primitivo. There is, however, a lot of road walking in this section.

It is advisable to take the bus from Oviedo to Aviles - this is what I also did.
However, I agree that the Primitivo is much more challenging.
