wondering about a walking partner June 2013

Hello ! I am wondering if anyone is also looking for a walking partner for the month of June 2013 .... I am walking for my 50th birthday. I would describe myself as extremely easy to walk with and have not set agenda ... I just would prefer not to be alone !

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Julie, I'd be surprised if you don't have hundreds of walking partners to choose from in the month of June, all within a few days, and starting day one. If you are, as you say, extremely easy to walk with and have no set agenda you would be hard-pressed to remain alone, even if you were Greta Garbo.

Others may disagree, of course, but I would not commit in advance to walking with one stranger when there are so many potential friends thronging the Way. Every albergue, every cafe, and the track, above all, will be alive with friendly pilgrims in June. There are also some serious types and introverts who are less eager to socialise, but sometimes they make great companions with a little patience. If you find you prefer a different pace or different company, you'll find alternative comrades almost immediately.

For many, making friends on the Way is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. Except you must not shoot the pilgrims!

Excited for you

Rob

Hello,
I shall be walking in June, and whilst not looking for a permament walking partner, it would be nice to learn of somone on this forum, that I can look forward to the occasional day's walk with.
Of course, we all walk at different paces, and have different ways.....but who knows......it could be nice.
I am, in the main, quite solitary, and often have no rush about me, and though have rarely found myself walking in a group, I have found bumping into some of the people I have met along the way a delight.
Do keep in touch.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I met a pilgrim yesterday who had a companion from home. He wanted to walk 40 km per day. It nearly killed her, though she wanted to kill him more. I was with a dawdler. There was always on more lace to retire, or sip of water to be taken.

There will always be daily walking partners, so be sure you do not start with a ball and chain...

wow thanks for the rapid reply and advice ! ... I have read a few books on the Camino and traveled last year to Santiago de Compostela to try decided if I can do this journey ! I was so encouraged by the pilgrims young and old.
I also understand you can have your backpack sent ahead on the first part of the trip on the steep climb and descent .... do you know how to do this ?
I am grateful for your insights and guidance and I wish you a wonderful day ! ! Julie

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Great quote. I agree that there should be plenty of company at that time of year, and if you haven't arranged to walk with people beforehand you can just enjoy each other's company as long as it works for both of you. If someone is faster, slower, wants to take a bus/rest day etc no offence will be taken.

Buen Camino!

Hello Julie,

I have read all the replies to your request, in general their advice is great, my first Camino was with my sister, but we rarely walked together, as we had different rhythm/ pace, to walk at someone else's pace be it slower or faster can be strenuous. You will meet people whilst walking and you may walk together and chat for a while, but eventually you will separate again as you get into your own rhythms .

Who knows I may bump into you on the way, you'll probably pass me as my pace is called an 'amble or dawdle '

My next Camino will be late may early June probably starting at roncessvalles

Hi, I'll be there about that time. I'm from Victoria and Ill be 53yrs. perhaps you might like to talk on the phone and see if our plans coincide. And you will probably like to keep any arrangements very loose for all the reasons above. Send me a reply and I can send you my mobile number if you wish.
