1st Timer-Solo Female In need of feedback/advice Pls!

Hey All,

So getting into Biarritz 8am ish on Friday 6th of Sept 2013. From there on to Saint Jean.
Thinking I will trek to Orison and stay there for the night-woo hoo. It's starting to feel real.
Any ideas what the weather would be like at this time of year???
What to bring tho female solo traveler.Here's what I'm thinking Would love any advise or info you could spare. Thanks a mille!! xo

Sleeping bag & rucksack
3 x dry trainer socks
2 x bra
Trek zip off trouser/shorts
Hoodie
Shopping bag reusable.
Whistle
Safety Pins.
Needle Thread
Hand San. wipes.
Money belt
trainers
t-shirts x 3
shorts x 1 or 2
light/torch
ipad? or phone? ( I may be meeting a friend or 2 on it so be nice to make contact)

Sleeping bag & rucksack = This time of year, a lightweight sleepsack is probably enough.

Safety Pins. - yes, to hang clothes on the line to dry

Money belt - yes, although this year I used one of those that hang on the belt inside your clothes and it was a heck of a lot more comfortable.

trainers - yes
t-shirts x 3 - I'd only take 2
shorts x 1 or 2 - I'd only take 1 if you're also taking zip-offs
light/torch - leave it at home
ipad? or phone? ( I may be meeting a friend or 2 on it so be nice to make contact)[/quote] - it's up to you whether you want to be connected or not. An ipad is heavy and you have to worry about it being stolen. Everybody on the camino will have a phone - for one or two calls you could borrow?

Travel towel
toothbrush and paste
panties - 2
hat for sun
rain gear - altus poncho or??
sunscreen or long sleeve gauze shirt for sun
soap and/or shampoo bar
stretchy clotheslines come in handy

notepad & pen if you like to keep a journal

I wouldn't bother with an ipad, it's an unnecessary weight. Phone is handy for emergencies (of the "at home" type not the "on the Camino" type) but you'll need a charger as well.

If you're walking in the trainers, I'd also take a very lightweight pair of sandals so you can give your feet an after-shower airing. If the trainers are an addition to the shoes you're actually walking in, then I'd take sandals instead.

Don't forget to book for Orisson if you're intending to stay there.

Lorraine, congratulations! You are in for a great adventure. I recently finished my first Camino Frances as a solo female and it sounds like you are planning to do the same route as me (I took the train from Paris to Biarritz, etc.). Besides the usual things on your packing list, which I'm sure you are still tweeking so I won't bother you with my suggestions, I took my iPad and cell phone, and I took a rain jacket instead of a poncho. I'm very happy with those choices and would definitely take them again. I'd be happy to IM you on my reasons, etc., don't want to take up space here. I can tell you about blisters, hiking poles, and those other things, too. Also, water, safety, sleeping in the albergues, what things cost, that kind of thing.

Although this may seem like a great idea, I saw more panty liners and santitary napkins along the Camino last year than I'd like to remember. This by WOMEN who be squalling bloody murder if you left these things in THEIR front yard!

If you're going to USE this method, please, oh please, don't leave the nasty things along the trail. Like toilet paper, they should be picked up and carried to the nearest trash receptacle.

Hi Lorraine - to emphasize what Julie said - you almost certainly need to reserve at Orisson and you should do it now if you're sure of your schedule. It may already be overbooked. You can do it from their website www.refuge-orisson.com/en
It usually takes a few days for them to get back to you.

Guys thank you all soo much. I am noting everything and trying to get the essentials in order. I am buyin 1000 miles socks tomor. Trying to keep my eye on what the weather would be like this time of year......any ideas anyone?

Oh my goodness yes! Without getting too personal, what I meant was that I wear them and drip-dry. Leave them along the Camino? Never, never, never - yuk!

Well, between St.Jean and Roncesvalles with all the facilities there is only one more on the Napoleon route:
