planning to walk (2013)
Hi all.....

I am new to the site and I am here as I am planning to do the last 100 km walk from Sarria to Santiago during my birthday week in February 2014. The plan is just to have a taste of the walk for now and I will eventually plan to do the proper Frances walk sometime soon. Now I have already booked my plane ticket to Santiago from london then from there I will get a bus to Sarria. So far I have only been reading information about the walk through the net as the guidebook I have ordered ( by John Brierley ) in Amazon has not arrived yet. Got few questions which I'm sure all answers can all be found somewhere here in the forum but I doing an essay right now too which is due soon so I cannot really browse much. I will be very grateful if you can guide me a bit please especially with some of my questions.

1. Is getting the bus from santiago to sarria the best option? Does someone know the link to the bus service please in santiago?

2. I am hiking on my own.....will there be loads of pilgrims during February time?
3. Is it going to be very cold in February ....is there a chance it will snow?
4. Since I am only doing a 100 km walk..... It does follow right that I won't have to carry too much with me. ( sorry this may sound like a stupid question to most of you here....:) but just want a general idea of probably how much weight I will be carrying for a 100 km walk in Camino. I do a lot of walking/ hiking but I'm not so used to walking with a heavy bag on my back.....so I just want an idea please.

Sorry everyone if all my questions seem really daft..... But I just need to get a bit of an idea. Getting really frustrated with amazon as It has been 3 weeks now since I've ordered the guidebook.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this!

Since the other responders have answered the transportation question, I'll take a stab at the quoted one. IMO you won't be carrying less than someone walking further than the last 100km. You'll still need the basics, which you can glean from hundreds of threads on what to pack. There's no getting around two sets of clothing, basic toiletries, spare shoes for evening wear, etc. Plus you'll actually be carrying more outerwear due to the season and the uncertainties of the weather in February. So assume something like 6 to 8 kg for the basics, plus whatever your additional seasonal clothes weigh. Get a good-fitting backpack with a hip belt to bear the weight, and you shouldn't feel too overloaded.

Buen Camino,
Jim

Thank you all for responding ...... I really deeply appreciate all your suggestions and comments here. I will definitely spend more time in reading through the common questions portion of this site so I won't be so redundant in my queries. It's just great hearing the answers to my immediate questions here.....It just helps me focus and it does relieves me a bit from stressing too much whilst waiting for my guidebook.

Have a great Christmas everyone! And I look forward to journeying with you all in Camino even if it's just here virtually! God bless us all!
