Planning to go early in April-15
Hi guys,

My name is Pedro, I am starting the camino on April 2 from SJPP and would love to get some inputs for the following questions:
1) How much would cost a taxi from Pamplona to SJPP?
2) How many days in advance should I book the albergues (the ones that accept reservations)?
3) I heard that I should expect lots of raining days in April....How bad is the rain in April ( historically) and should I be prepared for very hard camino due to the rain ?

Thanks

Pedro

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Welcome Pedro!
I don't know about a taxi but this is the service I plan on using to get from Pamplona to SJPdP in September: http://www.corazonpuro.es/

Hi Pedro,

I will be arriving in Pamplona on April 1 and staying at : www.corazonpuro.es/ who will then take us to SJPdP on April 2. We decided to rest that day and take in all of the atmosphere before beginning our Camino on April 3. We already made a reservation as well in SJPdP at: http://www.beilari.info/en/our-hostel
You can make a reservation now

Perhaps we will see you on the Way!

Steve,

Thanks for the information, if I had this info a few weeks Ago I would probably do the same you are doing but unfortunately I already have reservations so I will need to start on April 2.

Thanks and see you on the Way.

Watch your dates! Thursday the 2nd is a normal workday but things will start to shut down early for the holiday-life turns quite boisterous in Pamplona that evening. Good Friday is a holiday and you may find getting around difficult. Saturday is a Saturday with reduced business and transportation. You may walk into Pamplona or be just beyond for Easter. Midnight mass in Pamplona is moving, they have a wonderful choir so you should try and attend. You will be fine but plan well! Buen Camino and Buona Pasqua!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Yes, it is going to rain. A lot. Will that make it harder? I don't know about that. It just is. It rains in and around the Pyrenees. I was just there last week and it was raining so hard towns were flooding and you couldn't see the mountains. I will return mid April and it will no doubt still be raining.
So plan on rain - but don't worry about it. Carry a decent poncho or rain coat and 3 pairs of socks and have a buen camino!

Transport luggage-passengers.

Weather first, the forecast for April is lots of sunshine with maybe 3 days of possible light rain. Albergues, if you mean the ones in St Jean and or Orisson, you can book them now, I have already booked for 14th and 15th April, and lastly the taxi, I cant help you but I am sure others can

Hello Tpmchugh, just saw your posting of the weather for April. I am starting April 1, and that would be great. Where did you find those weather predictions. We are still not sure which route but we will get all the advice from the Pilgrims Office when we arrive in STJPDP. If Orisson is open we will stopover for a night. Maya

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Weather predictions more then 3 days in advance are just lucky guesses, sorry guys and gals! Buen Camino! SY

Maya......I've never actually stayed there but from everything I have read on the forum, you cannot just "stopover for a night" at Orisson. Rather you need a reservation. Just thought I'd mention it!

Shalom scruffy1,

Thanks a lot for your helpful input...the midnight mass in Pamplona must be fantastic ! I will check into this possibility.

Hi Pedro
I took a taxi from Pamplona to SJPDP in 2013 and at the time it was 96 euros (believe I saw recently that it's up to 100 euros from the bus station). It was good for me because I had had to spend the night in Pamplona after arriving late by bus from Madrid. The 6 euro bus from Pamplona was a great price but meant waiting until 6pm for departure and would have gotten into SJPDP pretty late. The taxi got me there before 10am so had lots of time to check in with the Pilgrim office and get my Albergue sorted out plus a pleasant stroll around the town.
I hope it's a great experience for you!
Buen Camino,
Jordon

Dont you just hate weather forecasters. The forecast for April has today done a u turn, snow and rain but yesterday it was wall to wall sunshine. How can it change so much in 24 hours. I think they just make it up as they go along :(
