Walking early April

First time
Hi everyone, I am going to be starting my first Comino on April 5th from S Jean.
Does anyone know what the weather is likely to be?
To be honest I'm feeling quite anxious about the first leg
over the Pyranees, hoping to stay the first night at Orisson to split the journey.
Anyone else starting around that time?

Hi Ali, the Napoleon route will be closed until the end of March, after that it depends of the weather . The pilgrim office will update you about the weather and witch route you can take.
Last year I crossed the Pyrenees on the 18th of April and there still was snow.
Wish you a wonderful journey over the Pyrenees and a Buen Camino, Peter.

One of the things you learn on the Camino is to take things as the are. If you are worried, simply enquire at the pilgrim office in S. Jean on the morning of your departure and take their advice. (You could also check the long range weather forecast, but that will not give you a reliable indication of the walking conditions.)

You will love Orisson - the views are breath taking and you will have time to linger and gradually work your way into the pace of the Camino. Just make sure to reserve your spot in advance.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Same here, still snow on the Pyrenees at that time but passable. However down into Spain and the weather was unseasonably hot. Climbing Alto de Perdon was one of if not the hardest days because of the heat. Leaving Carrion in May so cold I had to dig out winter buff and gloves that I thought would be only needed in the Pyrenees next day warm again. 15th May climbing up to O Cebreiro was a very pleasant day. Went into hotel for coffee, came out and within seconds, the temperature plunged and I almost ran down the hill trying to keep warm. Stayed that night in Hospital de la Condessa, the coldest night of the whole camino. So what I am trying to say is, instead of asking about the weather, you may as well ask, how long is a piece of string. But then, I am Irish and we can have all four seasons in one day so if we are still breathing, the weather is ok

Hi Ali, I am starting on the 13th. I don't know how accurate it is but the following website provides a long range forecast which might help;

I am walking the Camino right now. We are nested in a Albergue in Naverette we just arrived. We walked in snow from SJPDP thru Roncesvalles and down thw mountain. We have had one full day of rain and otherwise high clouds and sunny and warm. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Glad to read that all is going well! Do visit the splendid Baroque church, Nuesta Senora de la Asuncion, in Navarette. What a very special place it will be for Easter services.

Buen camino!

We attended noon mass there today and plan on attending Easter mass before we walk tomorrow.
