This may be an off topic subject and if so I sincerely apologize.

I have just found out that my Husbands Grandfather is actually Basque (We thought he was from Calais) does anyone know of a site where you can check family names or history in that area? This would add an added heartstring to our Camino.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I hadn't yet so thank you so much, I will check it out fully and thank you for the support. It would be amazing to find a family link especially as my husbands father was an only child.

I do understand you. In my family we have someone who really is into genealogy and who does some good studywork on our ancestors.

Good luck!!

As one who suffer from the "Celtic Curse" that being hemochomatosis, a lethal genetic iron overload blood disorder, prevalent in Basques and Celts. I have spent some time talking to the biologist who treats me in Bayonne and he sumrized there is no rhyme or reason for this disorder other than possibility that several 1000 years ago our tribes were starved for protein and our metabolism searched for ways to add iron to our diet. Apparently Celts and Basque are X time more susceptible this this disorder. Subsequently later any iron our bodies absorbed became a toxin to our livers and kidneys. This dangerous disorder is under diagnosed and it requires a DNA test. If you have a Celtic or Basque heritage I suggest you be tested. The ultimate results are death from liver and kidney failure.

I don't know of a list - but google will probably help.
But - you will be SO welcomed by Basque people - so let them know..! And if you learn a few Basque words it is very much appreciated. My husband is Welsh and was taken straight as family as a fellow 'oppressed minority'!! When we said 'mesedes' (please) and 'eskerrik asko' (thank you) we could do no wrong!!!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Wonderful, we will do that and thank you for the excellent reminder to learn at least a few words of the areas we are travelling through as I find that shows so much respect to those that live there. I have been trying to increase my Spanish Vocabulary for while we are in Spain but I saw the Basque language and thought wow, I can not figure how that would even be pronounced much less what the signs say.

If you know some Spanish the Basque pronounciation follows more or less the same pattern.
Merry Christmas to all !!
