Camino Frances and Camino Finisterre 2018 17 June to 29 July
Hi all,

I am a solo female traveler and I will be going to Camino France walk, start SJPP on Jun 17th, aim for walking 35days to finish.
Would anyone give me some advice as I am being a solo traveler anything I need to watch out or be alert to?

** Is anyone will be starting on the same date?

Thank you for your help!

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Sumantha, you will be fine.
But if you are concerned about walking alone, don't be.
There will be hundreds of pilgrims walking with you.
There is a Facebook Group called Camigas where you may find a female traveling companion, at least for the start.

My only advice would be NOT to walk with earbuds in your ears and stay alert to your surroundings, and if you walk on road, walk FACING traffic. When big trucks pass, get off the road, because I was blown over once by a big truck. My pack and ALTUS acted like a danged parachute and I barely missed going under the truck wheels.

Otherwise, go and have a wonderful Camino!

With your starting date you will have plenty of company of other pilgrims! Don't worry, you will be fine and will forge some great friendships on the way. Buen Camino, SY

There is no need to be worried. It will not be long before you will have met lovely people to share your journey.
I walked solo 2016 at 72 yrs of age and met and made friends with people of all ages and nationalities.
Good luck

On 17 April I was walking solo on the Valcarlos route out of SJPP where I encountered five dogs off-leash (each one at a time). Two of them were very aggressive. Be sure to have your hiking pole ready snd maybe also a handful of stones. Better yet, walk in a pack of hikers which will serve as a deterrent to dog attacks.

Hello Dear,
I am a solo traveller woman as well and had the same questions when I started the Camino Frances on March 30th this year.
But i met so many wonderful people both on the trails and in public albergues where i stayed. I was never alone even when walking by myself (which is what i preferred) i always felt that i had friends ahead of me and following me. It may not be easy to do on a very busy trail but i tried to chat for couple of minutes (introduction) with almost every one i passed on the trail.
There were many solo female workers as well. And we had a beautiful experience. I also made many friends (solo and couples)

My advice to you: Be aware of your surroundings like everyone else and enjoy the journey. Buen Camino

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

WAs thinking I might take some dog biscuits with me!

Funny you should mention that! I had a bag of dog biscuits with me the entire way, thinking that I might be able to bribe my way out of a jam. Usually aggressive dogs are beyond the dog-biscuit stage since they would rather have a bite out of your butt. However, I was accosted by a hungry cat when departing Los Arcos and decided to see if I could unload the weight of some of these dog biscuits. Usually no self-respecting cat would condescend to eat dog food, but this one ate FOUR before she finally let me move on!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
We will most likely meet you as we starting on the 15th. Don’t be afraid it sounds as if you already have friends waiting for you. I didn’t know about the dogs so thanks to your post now I know I definitely need a pole. Enjoy the journey. Buen camino peregrina
