Just spoke with nice Canadian pilgrim and looked at pictures she took of Albergue Las Peñas which is infected with bedbugs. Owner was rude saying what do you expect for 10E. She is moving and reporting to tourist bureau tomorrow.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

For most of us, it is very shocking and repulsive to encounter bed bugs, especially the first time. We react and show that shock and disgust. For the hospitelero, they are a frequent management problem - something that needs to be addressed, but not a situation for panic. When these 2 attitudes collide, one side can appear entitled and demanding while the other side seems rude and uncaring.

In fact, both are usually normal responsible people who got a bit upset or defensive.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

I think the additional problem was that the place was so dirty. Agreed even posh hotels get bedbugs.

I stayed at this albergue last year in the private room. I really liked the guy working even though there was huge language barrier. He had great sense of humor, and also gave me a free beer even though I tried repeatedly to pay(I ended up just tipping him the cost).

However, I did worry about bugs since all the furniture and wooden framed bed would be perfect hiding spots. I woke myself up every hour or so and turned on lights to inspect everything. I did not see one bug that time. But, if they did invade this place recently, I would assume it would be difficult to fully eradicate them, because of the mentioned furniture mentioned above.

That is possible because of the cracks in the wooden floor etc. But once I got bitten in an albergue with tiled floor, all stainless steel furniture and impeccably clean. Go figure...
It is what it is. You just have to deal with it and try not to transport them critters along the way.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
There have been two times on the Camino when I worried about the possibility of bedbugs. Both times (in private rooms) we kept the lights on all night and doing that made it brutal to try to stay sleeping. Not sure if it helped keep the little buggers hidden, but we were not bitten to our knowledge.

Hello all. Here to give a brief account of my (and many others) first day on the Camino on May 1. The trip to Roncesvalles was tough. I went Valcarlos route because napoleon was very ill advised...
I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
Can anyone tell me if food is available there… anyone stayed recently? Cheers
If you’re walking the Camino Portugues right now I’d recommend you avoid the complementario route into Pontevedra. While it is quiet and green and follows the river, it’s also a muddy mess. I...
