Casimiro was at the entrance of his home just before Montefurado. He is a world treasure, truly un patrimonio mundial. He told us he is 95 soon to be 96 in April, healthy and performing all his chores. His eyes and his house sparkles. He showed us around including his bodega/cellar. We had toast of his homemade cherry liqueur which included a . It was very hard to leave. @Peregrina 2000, thanks for the great directions, we turned the corner & there he was & I yelled, Casimiro, eres tu? He smiled widely & beckoned us to come visit, gave him all your regards.

Where is the stand @El Cascayal? That’s a new addition. So there must be some decent pilgrim traffic!

The stand is directly at the end of the little bridge over the river. He is such a gentle, kind man. He told us many personal stories and wanted to show us his small flock and his mill. Such a moving experience. His house is so neat and clean and he keeps it this way himself, “to stay active, healthy and young.” Right in Montefurado there is a woman, Manolin who has a little basement donativo mini bar and is herself a Peregrina.
The weather has been outstanding. The scorched arsoned forests which is the livelihood of so many and the incinerated centenary chestnuts are heartbreaking to see and still smell of smoke in some places. Pacita is still very sick and slowly recovering. We stopped by just to give her family our well wishes and prayers. We are in Salcedo tonight. This is one beautiful country and this is a very special Camino.
