    summer 2011

Hi All, I'm posting this separetely from 'Class of 2011' so that it will be picked up more easily. When working as hospitalero at Rabanal at end of October we were discussing numbers for 2011 and several thought the numbers in 2011 may be higher than normal since many pilgrims stayed at home...

    Here I am!

Hi Geradine [without the L!] and welcome to the Forum :) . I hope you really enjoy your planning and the anticipation that each stage of the planning brings. As you say, your camino has begun, may it all be fruitful and enjoyable. Buen Camino, Brendan

    Snow at O Cebreiro

Hi, I was working at the 'English' refugio in Rabanal during the 1st week of November and we had snow showers - winter has definitely arrived in the mountains.

    future pilgrim from west yorkshire

Hi Lawrence and welcome [belatedly] to the Forum :) I live in Tynemouth and in 2005 walked from home - walked to ferry at North Shields and then on from Amsterdam. I had decided that walking down through England wasn't very attractive and felt that to get onto mainland Europe was a good thing...

Some Alburgues now CLOSED on the Camino

Hi All, The Refugio Gaucelmo [English Refugio] in Rabanal is now closed for the winter - due to reopen 1st April. However Reugio El Pilar in Rabanal is open all winter - has log fire, cooking facilities, can order meals and has bar, and most of all a good welcome. Brendan

    Class of 2010

Hi Happygolucky, :) and welcome to the Forum. Re Buses Santiago/Astorga I think that if you go to the ALSA website you should get some satisfaction - they run a very good service across Spain. You may possibly have to change buses but I think you will be ok. Best wishes for both your planing...

Not as good as I thought...

Hi all :) have just been scanning through this topic and it reminded me of a good humoured Spanish pilgrim who was walking with her husband in 2005. They actually lived in Santiago but had started at Roncesvalles [ :?: I think]. He was very enthusiastic and maybe a little more serious about the...

    IRELAND - EIRE

Hi pilgrims and welcome to the Forum :) . It's good to see something different but it would be good to have a translation for those less gifted in languages :!: Thanks and Buen Camino. Brendan

will it be cold by mid November?

Hi all :) remember that heading into November you will have been walking across a fairly high plateau, the Meseta, and then you climb to 4000ft as you cross the Montes de Leon after Astorga. I've worked at Rabanal during the first week of November and it was normal to have frosty nights due to...

    99 days to go...

Hi Brenda and welcome to the Forum :) . Orisson is a good place to stop, it's not too far and the welcome is good. A suggestion for getting the weight of your pack down is to lay everthing out on the floor and make 2 piles - one pile for the things you absolutely, definitely need and the second...

Cahors - St Jean Pied de Port

Hi Julie, I notice that this is your first post, so welcome to the Forum :) . I've walked from Le Puy twice and, as you have worked out from your Topo guide, there are, as far as I remember, no really difficult parts from Cahors onwards - certainly nothing like the climb out of Monistrol...

Pilgrim died on Route Napoleón in March 2009?

Hi Jochen and welcome to the Forum, :) More than one pilgrim has died in the Pyrenees over the years. The winter conditions last longer in the mountains and it is neccesary to check the weather forecast and get advice from people in St.Jean before crossing. The general advice is that if...

    Introduce

Hi David and Richie and welcome to the Forum :) , I've walked the Le Puy route twice and it's tough but very beautiful. As mentioned on the forum the weather conditions can vary greatly, going from snow, wind and rain on the Aubrac plateau to hot weather further along the route so you will need...
