St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
If you only have 10 days walking and want to arrive at Santiago de Compostela to obtain the Compostela, you need to start no farther away than Ponferrada. I believe there are trains from Barcelona that stop there as well.

Check www.rome2rio.com

Hope this helps.

If your friend has 10 days to walk the camino, I don't think he should start in Pamplona. Probably Ponferrada, Astorga or Leon is the farthest from Santiago (s)he can do. There trains to Leon actually continues to these other cities.

It depends if the friend needs to finish in Santiago or not. Pamplona to Burgos is a lovely walk achievable in ten days. They might want to maximise their short time walking, especially if Santiago is not essential on this trip.
