...the Wise Pilgrim app) which I worry will strain my knees (which then will make the next couple of days very uncomfortable). Is there a transfer service from Orisson to Roncesvalles by any chance? I'd rather not risk this part of the walk and take a bus down there if possible.
Thanks in...
I think I read of an hourly transport service if orisson refuge is full which will take you back to sjpdp and then you can get it back to orisson the next morning.
Can anyone tell me if this service is still going and how I can book it ,thanks in advance for any help
Is it OK to take a taxi to Orisson on Day 1 from SJPDP, stay overnight then continue the walk the next day to Roncesvalles?
Personal reason, please no judgement.
...for you guys. I will be arriving the 15th April at barritz airport at 12 and hope to get a train to sjpdp around 12,30. I have a reservation at Orisson that night, hopefully on a decent weather. So, the question is: a what time maximum I need to leave sjpdp? 3 pm still sounds good? All the best
Hello everyone, I’m starting from SJPDP 30th April but can’t get accommodation in either of the above. I’m prepared to walk through to Roncesvalles but wondered if there were any albergues ‘tucked away’ nearby? Probably a silly question I know!

...My daughter and I are walking our first Camino in May 2024. We are from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Our first day will be walking from SJPDP to Orisson. Sadly, we could not find accommodation in Orisson. Is it difficult to find a taxi back to SJPDP from Orisson and then back again the next day...
I arrive in Pamplona on April 16 at 9 AM and thinking about going directly to SJPP, checking in and starting straight out for Orisson. Has anyone else done this? Should I consider rather spending the day and night in SJPP and heading out early the 17th?
I was wondering how many people skip staying at St Jean Pied de Port
and hike right to Orisson. The one bus from Pamplona arrives in SJPP
at around 1:30 pm. If you sat right in the front of the bus and were one of
the first people off, then if you headed right to the Pilgrims Office to get...
...of these two accommodations that night.
Auberge Borda seems to be of higher quality in terms of beds, facilities and food. However, Refuge Orisson seems to be a more social space. As it's my birthday, and I'll be walking solo, the social aspect rather than comfort is my priority. A hearty...
For anyone using baggage transfer from SJPP and considering staying in Refuge Orisson, they state on their confirmation email that they are working exclusively with Transports de Bagages Harispe and will not accept luggage from other companies. This company also offers transfers from Biarritz...
I watched a youtube video which said that there was a lot of road walking one day 1.
Could someone clarify this please, am i going to be on the road for most of the first day without a road shoulder trying to maneuver around cars.
Thaank you
Can I transfer my backpack to Borda or Orisson ? Then to Roncesvalles and onwards from there? I understand some places don't accept luggage transfer. If they do, would it be with Express Bourricot to Roncesvalles then Jacotrans after that? TIA
...I was thinking of spending two nights there and starting to walk on the Monday to Roncesvalles. I'm now wondering that maybe I walk to Orisson and stay there the Sunday night, given I have the option (subject to current availability) and it will help break up the first part. Also, the...
Traveling to SJPdP with spouse in April ‘24.
Discovered online reservation system with calendar. This didn’t exist in’19. Online calendar implies no beds in the month of April. Is this possible!?!
Do you know find yourself with a pair of black smart wool men's underwear that aren't yours? I'd so, let me know! You grabbed my dad's off the laundry line!
Thanks!

So, 8 weeks out from the day we leave, I developed Achilles tendonitis. The physio says rest, so Ive lost my final two months training 😏.
At this stage it's all looking a bit questionable, but I'm determined to still give it a go. If I start walking and find the steep incline too painful, am I...
...call me anything but just don't call me late for supper!
I will be arriving in SJPdP after noon on 28 May and have a reservation for Auberge Orisson that night. I would certainly want to arrive by dinnertime, so I wonder how long I can tarry in St Jean before starting up the hill? In other...
Hello all. I’m walking from SJP in late October. Orisson closes after the 15th of October. Any recommendations if I want to stop before Roncesvalles? Should I just go the Valcarlos route? Thanks for any suggestions. Frank
