I've just returned from the San Salvador/Primitivo and have got Giardia from drinking untreated Water. I filled a bottle in Tineo as the Bar owner said it was good water/better than his Tap. There has been a lot of very heavy rain and just like here in Ireland sometimes the Tap water is not safe...
I’m leaving in 11 days for my CP. I live in California and would not drink tap water unless it’s filtered however I remember drinking from plenty of fountains in Spain. Is it the same in Portugal or should I plan to just buy bottled water? TIA
While reading through one of the more recent water bottle vs. hydration bladder debates, I was reminded of something I came across a few weeks ago, bookmarked, and promptly forgot about until said recent debate made me think of it again:

Basically, it's a...
Hi all! Starting the Frances route next week in SJPDP and was wondering how much water do most people carry?
I'm an avid hiker/backpacker and usually carry at least 2 liters. More from a fear of running out and not being able to refill than actually needing that much!
Thanks!
...caught in the high hills in a snow storm or freezing temperatures.
In the Haute Languedoc region I probably won't go through a village with water that day so I was wondering if anyone could remember if there were streams or other natural water sources I can access along the way. The usual...
Hi just a few weeks to go now, and my bag is more or less packed.
I've decided not to take a water bladder, but to use bottles instead.
So my question is, bearing in mind that a litre of water is a kilogram in weight plus its container. How much water do you experienced pilgrims carry and in...
...on topic.
I plan to stay in hotels for my Camino next year and, unlike albergues which likely have pantry areas with complimentary drinking water available to pilgrims for refills, hotels may or may not provide complimentary drinking water in their rooms, and not all may have...
Hi
Looking for information here on the availability of water fountains on this route.
Is it comparable to the camino ingles where there are fountains every 4-8kms?
Thanks
Simon
We are getting to Finisterre with our teenagers, and I wonder, is there any kind of water sports in the place? like surfing, kayaks, jet ski or anything like that?
Like lots of folks that are planning to on Camino, I’ve been watching (lots of) YouTube camino videos. Quite a few have clips of people getting water from wells or drinking fountains. Now I know that water is a major consideration on Camino and particularly the VDLP, so I was wondering how to...
...was wondering if I should get a hydration pack for my backpack?
I was thinking No! but then I wondered if I could refill drink bottles with water about every 5 klms. In that way, I do not need to carry a lot of water (weight).
So, are the drinking fountains regularly along the way?
Is the...
I asked a few people while I was walking, but no one seemed to know. Most hadn’t even noticed. But in some towns/villages it seemed about half the houses had water bottles sitting outside their front door.
I know I could probably Google it and get the answer, but that seems too easy…
...the costal Portuguese route for the first time this august, and was wondering, do I need trekking poles? And what are ppls opinions on bringing a water reservoir? I’m traveling for Europe for 2 weeks after the Camino, so I want to pack lightish but also be prepared for the 2 week Camino. Thanks!
We often get questions from those planning their first Camino about water sources and water quality.
And after my most recent Camino, it got me thinking. And others might want to share their thoughts, experiences and logic.
Let's not get side tracked on how much water to carry.......
That's a...
Heads up regarding a water issue in Betanzos! Their water is currently not drinkable, and they have parked a giant water truck in the main square for locals and visitors to get clean water. Because of this, water stations are not functioning from before Betanzos almost to Presedo.
Leaving...
We're staying in Sahagun at the Hostel San Juan. There is no hot water. We've tried showering at many different times today to no avail. Management left..... I wouldn't recommend staying here.
...the Central on the Camino Portugues. I just stumbled on new information, from Caminiha if your intent is to cross over from there. There is a water taxi service, called Taxi Boat Peregrinos that will now take you by boat all the way from Caminha to Tui! Yes indeed! The cost is 30 Euros. You...
Looking for advice about how to book a place on a boat from Villanova de Arousa to Padron, and whether it’s necessary to book well in advance? Grateful for any other advice about the route. We are 5 Aussie pilgrims here in late June. With thanks
