Well done for your decision Denise. I walked the Camino Frances alone last year, and 'alone' meant that I walked on my own, with people behind me and up ahead, and with plenty of company from welcoming people in the evenings if I felt inclined (mostly I was inclined!). Walking alone, I had time...
Hello Sara! So you really are one of the veteran walkers! I think you have a lot to offer us and perhaps don't need our advice. Thank you for joining us. It would be nice to hear your experienced thoughts from time to time.
For me, Suzanne, I just allowed the camino to impart its gifts. If we have certain expectations, we might be disappointed, so its best to be open to whatever comes. Don't worry about your moods or anything at all, because the camino will bring out the best and worst in you, and there's not much...
So sorry about the leg! I'm routing for you, and I hope you're able to get walking soon. Enjoy some time off with lots of Vino Tinto. Its a great healer!
Here's a good link to explore Madrid to Roncevalles journey. http://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/madrid-to-roncesvalles.5142/
Don't be nervous ( I felt the same and found the camino so wonderful!), just enjoy every minute of it! Buen Camino!
Be warm if you're early-ish May, and take the recommended rain-gear. You'll get warm walking, so don't over do it. And listen to the locals when they say not to go the Napoleon Route.
Have a wonderful trip, and Buen camino!
You really don't have to plan ahead, because you'll be walking at a busy time and it just gets busier as you go. Everyone is friendly and there are always people looking to walk and talk and chat every evening. Have a great camino!
Hi Rich, I walked from SJPDP to Santiago in mMay/June 2013 and I did it alone. Everyone is always friendly, helpful and caring and one is never truly alone. You'll have all the space to think, reflect and plenty of company if you want it. You'll be walking in summer too, so the way will be busy...
Hello Jenny and Allan! Welcome to the forum, and good luck on your camino. Its an amazing thing that you're about to embark on, probably will be one of the highlights of your lives. Good luck with all your planning! Buen camino!
Yes, re-think the ipad. Its light and it's great for photos. It will be easy for skype also. As you've already been advised, you can skype along the camino using internet cafes and some hostals, but you don't always get a lot of privacy. Buen camino! You're in for a treat.
Fantastic that you're are finally answering the call. We go when its time and never before. It took 13 years after my call that I finally walked. Its almost as if we have to be prepared by life in some way. So have a wonderful experience, and buen camino!
