Yeah, I can't do Xero brand. I bought their shoes on a sale and for long distance walking they were awful. I have a decent pair of hiking sandals. I might just carry those and buy some cheap shower sandals when I get there.
After a major knee injury and surgery shoes and foot care is a big deal for me. I've decided on my shoes, HOKA Speedgoats. Now I need to figure out a sandal or flip-flop for the Camino Frances. I want something to shower with, walk in and go downtown in. I have a decent pair of "hiking...
I have spent months looking for the best shoe to get over the Pyrenees and all the way to Santiago. I tried Saucony, Altra, Solomon, Brooks and HOKA. In my opinion, HOKA Speedgoat 5's are way above every other brand. I had a complete quadricep rupture and surgery about 18 months ago. Socks...
As we are avid hikers and walk several miles a day, I have tried various kinds of underwear. I just can't find anything as comfortable and regular old cotton briefs. But, 5 weeks on the Camino means cotton might be not awesome at all. Do tell... What should I be looking for. I tried "Smart...
Hi folks. My wife and I are walking the Camino Francis in late May till early July. We tried the summer sleeping bag tonight. Hers fits her but, mine is way too tight. She zipped me up in it and I was about to bust out of it. Once we stopped laughing we decided we needed to find another...
I have an active iPhone 14 through Verizon. Apparently it’s quite expensive to use it internationally. So, it may be cheaper for me to just buy a burner phone in France or Spain. I only want it for emergencies and a once a day check for text messages. I plan to leave it off as much as I can.
Personally, I hate rain pants. Your legs still get wet due to sweat or relentless, driving rain. Then, the rain pants make things more miserable. Shorts and wet legs is the way to go I think. Legs dry fast. Walking in the rain isn't bad as long as it's not cold out.
The last time I traveled to Europe cell phones weren't such a major thing (yes I'm that old). I have an Iphone 14 in the US. My inclination is to just buy a cheap phone when I get to France/Spain. But, I keep reading about switching SIM cards. What is my simplest option? Trying to keep this...
I feel like great shoes will be really important to my success on this journey. I have been trying different brands and so far, haven't found one I feel great about (maybe). I tried Altra and they squeak all the time...loud.. I reached out to the warranty email and they told me to put powder...
We're going from the end of May to the first of July. I have run the miles every way I can to figure out how to make the walk on the Frances in basically one month. Can't figure it out without shortcutting some of it with a bus or train ride. It looks like a 34 day walk with no breaks and...
My little toes kinda ride under the next little piggie. So, five finger toe socks is all I will wear for long distance. My favorite socks, are some I bought on Amazon. The fabric just works for me. It's almost perfect for my feet in thickness and density. Ignore the picture. They don't...
