Time of past OR future Camino
1st Camino begins 3/30 (2016)
I'm getting excited for my pilgrimage. In a few weeks I leave to begin a spiritual, physical, mental, emotional journey that has been much needed. My Camino will be from the last couple days of March to the first few days of May. I'll be in India for a month prior to doing the Camino & head to Holland afterward to spend time with my sister & her family who relocated there a few years ago. Colorado has been my home for the past 15 years. I raised a daughter on my own and now she's a wonderful grown woman. A few major life changes have led me to this place and I decided last month what I needed to do. Albeit, I've only been out of the country (US) once in my life, to New Zealand, except slightly over the Mexican & Canadian borders in my youth. Looking forward to meeting fellow pilgrims on the trail and virtually here. I appreciate all the advice from all of you who've donated info to this forum past and future.

Buen Camino,

Becky

Becky, Buen Camino. May your journey be a wonderful experience. Go without expectations. If you have not travelled much then the first few days you will possibly be in culture shock - don't make any major decisions but try to just go with the flow, and do be kind to yourself. A sit in a restaurant or cafe with tea (India) or cafe con leche (Spain), to watch the world go by, is never a mistake!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Thank you Kanga. Great advice. I very much appreciate your kind words.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Walk The way with an open mind and you will have the journey of a lifetime. Remember as you journey along that the camino gives you what you need, not what you want.

If you are starting in SJPdP then look out for the saying written on the bridge as you enter Zubiri. It remained in my thoughts throughout me pilgrimage.

Buen Camino

I'm getting excited for my pilgrimage.

Like you Becky, I also start my real journey of as lifetime. Although my start is a few days later than you and about 800 km north and east.

And right now I am very nervous.

I have read quite a bit of what Kanga, and other reflective posters, have said in recent months and found it wise in all respects. My take on what Kanga said is to be slow and steady, stop to smell the roses (or whatever) and interact with the people.

Buen camino.
Kia kaha (be strong).

Ideal pocket guides for during and after your Camino. Each weighs just 40g (1.4 oz).

Thank You Alwyn. I hope to hear how your epic trip goes in the coming months. Thank you for taking time to message me. Btw, I am a bit nervous along with being very excited.
-- Kia Kaha is a great (& how perfectly appropriate for this forum) Maori phrase- :) I spent my 12 day visit on the South Island when in NZ in Fall (April) '07- hope to get back to see the North Island one day soon. I read your post with my mind's rendition of a Kiwi accent. Have a great adventure!

Buen Camino!

"Remember as you journey along that the camino gives you what you need, not what you want." -- Love that! The camino is much like life in that way - keeps us humble when necessary. Thank you Waka.

Prepare for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island, Oct 27 to Nov 2
Have a great adventure!

I am sure I will.

As you mentioned the North and South Islands let me give you a geography lesson that does not amuse my neighbours across "the ditch".

Aoteroa-New Zealand comprises four islands.
  1. The North Island (where I live)
  2. The South Island (where you visited in Autumn (April 2007)
  3. The East Island (also known as Chatham Islands with the international dateline bent around it)
  4. The West Island (across the ditch. But don't tell the Australians)
Kia kaha tatou (everyone be strong).

Love it!

Was just thinking...
on the camino I'm going to be wearing a t-shirt from a winery outside Queenstown, I believe, Perigrine. It's of that nice NZ merino wool. I have yet to find it in my storage but I will.
