Agés, albergue Caracol

Hi everyone
I have been asked to put a message on here from Anja Lund who is the Hospitalairo of Caracol albergue in Ages, which is about 4k past St. Juan De Ortega and tell you of my time there.

So its a lovely little and intimate albergue, Anja is a lovely women who prepared for us the best salad and risotto and gave us the run of her house, she even had me greeting and welcoming over guests while she was out.

One room was still being worked on but the bedroom i stayed in was very new and aclean, heated, great views, music player and cds, small library, 6 comfy mattreses on the floor

And all this for a donativio!!

If you pass by here give it a try, there are two other albergues in this small village with only 27 permenant inhabitants.

Sounds a bit lavish for the beaten perigrino!

Ages would make a fairly ideal stop in my experience. St Juan de Ortega is a bit of a quiet stop and Atapuerca tends to be the next most popular stop before Burgos and that's only a couple of K down the road.

Alternatively, if you're looking for a nice easy day to Burgos and a not so easy day from Belorado, I'd like to say that Cardenuela Riopica was a nice, yet small place to stop. Good bar (well, it was cheap and the barman was leathered) but really, really clean refuge with nice showers... That's only 16k from Burgos and it's all down hill/ on a flat from there.

I don't know if I'm talking of the same albergue in Ages, but last year I stayed in a new(?) private refugio in that village: 6 euros for the bed, 7 euros for the dinner and 2 for breakfast. Very clean premises, kind hospitalera, great food (salad and paella for dinner, unsupervised eat-all-you-can toast/cereal/coffee/tea breakfast). Laundry drying on the street outside, if you can call it a street, more like a small park.

Great experience.

Same place?

I think maybe a different place as this is a very old place and only just and still is being turned into a refuge and still under development.
The house is lovely and old and has some original features, like grain storage spaces upstairs....
