Hi all,

I’m planning to start my Camino Friday or Saturday this week from Ourense to walk the last 100kms on the Via De La Plata Camino.

In terms of staying in Albergue’s, I don’t think these can be booked… is that correct? Can I just rock up in each town and find a bed (as an organised person this stresses me out but I’d like the full experience of staying in albergues).

I’m also wanting to send my backpack ahead each day, can this be done from albergues ?

Thank you!

Most private albergues and some municipal and religious albergues can be booked in advance. Most municipal albergues do not accept reservations. There is no one answer. The Gronze website will say if a particular albergue accepts reservations.

Also with using pack transport - some albergues will receive forwarded luggage but others will not. I'm sorry that there are no simple answers to your questions but that is not how Caminos work.

Best to download Gronze and make plans day to day. It should be easy to get a reservation somewhere in Ourense so you know where you’re going when you first arrive. From there, ask for assistance for the 2nd night’s lodging and someone will help with reservations if needed. Honestly the best way to do this is to carry your pack — light as possible — so you don’t have the rigamarole of having to make a reservation so you can send it ahead. Then you can stop whenever you feel tired or when you find a nice place along the way. Sometimes there aren’t a lot of options in the smaller towns and villages. I usually consult a list or an app to get an idea of what is available at my proposed destination and, if it’s a holiday weekend, I can call ahead to make sure there’s a spot for me. But otherwise I often just wing it. Never had to sleep under the stars for lack of a bed.

Hello all. Here to give a brief account of my (and many others) first day on the Camino on May 1. The trip to Roncesvalles was tough. I went Valcarlos route because napoleon was very ill advised...
Did you meet Bjørn Krohn? Died aged 48 in an albergue, I don't know where, tuesday 21th. I didn't know this until now.
Seems to be a lot of people posting about stuff they lost on the Camino recently. I managed to leave a nice new-ish polo shirt somewhere drying and didn't notice for over a week. I hope someone...
I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
Can anyone tell me if food is available there… anyone stayed recently? Cheers
