Albergues operating?

June: Camino Frances from Pamplona
Hello! My wife and I live in Vermont, USA. We are wondering at what capacity are the albergues on the CF operating? Would it be better to wait? How congested has it been? We did it 2 years ago & would like to do it again. In other words, if we come will find a place to sleep every night. 2 years ago, it got pretty touch & go from Saria to Santiago de Compostela.

To sum up this rambling post: is the CF open again for pilgrims from outside of Spain? After over a year of pandemic isolation, we are itching to get back. Thanks!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Spain is open, with restricitions. Check here: https://reopen.europa.eu/en/

As I understand it albergues are starting to open, but all is fluid now. But it seems there are no problems finding places to sleep. Maybe do forward booking. A good resource for contacting places for your nights is the Wise Pilgrim app.

Yes that is a good resource. The only thing you can be sure of is that things are changing daily and even though today is hopeful who knows what tomorrow will bring. Use Gronze.com they are good with up to date info. Download Wise Pilgrim and Buen Camino so you have more locations of albergues etc. Also have the Booking.com app. Make sure you can make calls in Spain and call ahead to make sure the albergue you want to go to is open. What is great information today can be very stale information and incorrect tomorrow.

Hi Berry,

The Camino Ninja App has information about what is open and closed on Camino Francés. It's free. Feel free to try.

These are all very optimistic responses! I am starting in Roncevalles August 4 and have found it difficult to find places. Many are closed or full. That said, after many emails, I have found places to stay between Roncevalles and Pamplona, but not necessarily at the distances I would have prefered to walk. I am going to continue making bookings, so we will see how it goes! I m happy to be flexible but do want a bed each night.

They are opening up day by day. So if you booked a couple of weeks ago it is way easier now.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Roncesvalles or push to Burguete? I prefer to avoid the recommended stages to avoid the race for albergues. Do you suggest Burguete? Is Roncesvalles too busy?
