Hi everyone-- I'm walking the Camino in June and I wanted to know if anyone has experience walking in the Altra Lone Peaks shoe? I've heard it has some durability issues and I'm curious as to how that played out on Camino.

Thanks!

I am chilling at the Atlanta airport awaiting my flight to Madrid-- in my Altra lone peaks. I've trained in a pair about 300+ miles, many in mountains.

I did purchase another pair for the Camino, though I don't consider the others to be worn out. I love them and feel confident that they will see me through. I also have my keen sandals with me as a second pair for evenings and if I need a change .

I do love my lone peaks.

Wonderful! Do you recommend getting a size larger for Camino, or is true-to-size roomy enough to accomodate swelling?

Hi Hallie, I'm now in the pilgrim office in St Jean! I do have a larger size than normal but that may be just my particular foot issue: I think you probably need to try them on?

Agree with Priscilla. Altra fits differently. My husband loves them and they rub my foot in an odd place. They also run smaller than my regular size. He has been training in a pair and will buy another before we leave for the Camino.

Great news for REAL duck feet; the Altra Lone Peak now comes in Wide! Altras are already known for their wide toe box, but even the men's wasn't really wide enough for my feet. This year they have a Wide option, and the Women's Wide fits me perfectly! This is a rare thing for me, so I'm excited. I usually walk in my Chaco sandals, but it's great to have a closed toe shoe option now, too.

I'd suggest you try a half size larger in the wide sizing. Mix and match size and width to ascertain the most suitable.

I walked my last Camino in Lone Peaks. I left them in Santiago but they survived without a problem at all. 500 miles is about right. I do remember feeling that the insole was a bit compressed. If you can get a second pair that would be good. I bought some extra Superfeet insoles which were quite expensive.

Tomorrow I am going to try out the new LP5s, but I am also going to buy a pair of LP Timps and LP Olympus. I have read very good things about the comfort of the Olympus. I will report back to the group about this.

I have also bought LP All weather Lows which are brilliant for wet grass days but on dry days they make my feet sweat.

Walked three Caminos in Altras plus have worn them exclusively for the past four years! Definitely a fan of them, especially for my wide feet. That said, at 500 miles they really start to show there wear: slick tread, matted cushioning, micro tears in the fabric. At 700 miles, every pair I had were ready for the garbage can. Their price vs durability is an issue, but they truly are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn.

Size-wise, I am a 13.5 but get a 14 since they don’t come in half sizes in those larger levels. A full size up? Only if they aren’t too wobbly before your feet swell.
