Any firsttime walkers in May 2009?

Hi everyone!
I am planning my very first trip to Compostella in May this year. Training will start soon, because I don't really like walking....without a purpose! My plan is to fly in and start in León the beginning of May and to get to Compostella by the end of May. Any suggestions for a sleeping place the first night in Léon?? :roll: please let me know!

The Alburgue Municipal in Leon is a nice place, run by nuns, friendly, and clean.
It's central to shopping and sightseeing.
A good place to start your Camino.
There is a nearby church that offers a Pilgrim's Mass.

Some people like them.
Some people do not.
I found them to be very useful.
No need to bring them from home.
They are sold in many of the villages along the way for very little money.

there is a curfew at the nuns place, although my friends loved it..but the other modern municpal alburqes is a nice walk from the center, but there is no curfew, so if you wish to spend more time in the night life of Leon you may...the price is right 3 euro..have FUN!! bien Camino!

I've walked in May. It was cold in the high places, rained a lot but was hot on the low places. We froze some days - missed snow a couple of times - and had sunburned noses in other places.
Compared with September everything is green, the wildflowers are spectacular and the white and black European stork are still on their huge nests with fat babies clapping their bills for food. You'll have a wonderful walk!

Hi,

An April-May walker here. Leon is a beautiful and very modern city. I stayed at the new municipal albergue also...it's about a 2.5 km walk from the town center. Very clean and, again, not expensive.

weather was good for the most part...with rain being the key concern at the lower elevations.

Yes! I and 2 friends plan to begin in Leon the first week in May. We're finalizing our transportation, so not sure of exact date. We've about 14-16 days, so hope the weather isn't too challenging. This is our first trip and we're very much looking forward to it.

Back in April 08', I thought I knew exactly what I was doing, how I was going to do it and when I'd arrive in Santiago. Few of my original plans made it past Pamplona and my initial sense of near failure has only recently begun to take on some clarity as to my purpose for walking the Way.

I'll be starting from St Jean Pied de Port on Sunday, May 10, 2009 ("inshallah" as some friends say, "god willing" as others say, "whatever" as still others say...)

It's starting to feel real.

Hi,

Two of my Camino Frances journeys have been in May and the other in July. Forget July (2003), it was hot (heat wave) and there were too many student 'pilgrims'. However, May was absolutely wonderful in both 2002 and 2007. In May I have experienced the weather conditions one would expect from along the way ... wind, rain, sleet, snow, and bright sunny delightful days. I believe that a poncho or backpack cover and rain gear are necessary as is a fleece for the high country. The coldest days of the 2007 journey were the June days in Santiago (arrived June 12). Each year, each walk, offers different conditions. Go prepared and you will be okay.
