Hi folks! I'm starting my walk in SJPdP around 16 April 2013, give or take a day for the connections from Melbourne Australia to Paris, Bayonne etc. I'm booked on a flight out of Madrid on 24 May, and fervently hoping almost six weeks will be enough... Anyone else out there planning to walk round this time?

Hi,
I will start my second Camino on April 12 from SJPdP. I am from Sweden and I am really excited and anxious to get started. Lets hope for decent weather. Last time I walked was Sep-Oct 2011. Not a single day of rain in 34 days.

Everyone I saw in the Santiago post office was having to put their suitcases in boxes, making it a parcel. Perhaps Ivar or JohnnyWalker can illuminate the Correos policy on suitcases.

Yes - they only take them if parcelled up or in one of the boxes they sell. Also be careful as they Post Office in Santiago will only keep the package for 15 days. It might be best to post it to Ivar.

My girlfriend and I will be arriving in SJPDP hopefully by April 15 or 16 and starting out. We are walking (not bicycling, etc.)

We live in Tucson, Arizona where we are surrounded by mountains that go up to over 9,000 feet. So, we are experienced with elevation change but not experienced in back-to-back days over 15 miles or more.

Hopefully, this is a good time to go. :D

Hi,
Did you know there is a newly formed chapter of American Pilgrims right here in Tucson. We will be meeting on Sunday the 24th of February in the Total Wine Store in the Park Place Mall. Why not come and join us? There will be several pilgrims there who will be leaving for the Camino, we will be presenting them with their scallop shell.

Let me know if you and your girlfriend would like to join us for the shell ceremony. It would be our (the Chapters) joy and privilege to be able to share some Camino info and present you with scallop shells for your journey.

Very excited booked and paid for flights return to CDG today. The rest is open depends where I wish to start ( I have 16 days) so may do St Jean to somewhere and fly out of Madrid or start Leon and at least get to Santiago. Pretty keen to come back same time in 2014 so may lean toward the St Jean option though i'd love to start in Portugal.
Does anyone know if its easy to get flights back to Paris at one or two days notice from either Santiago or Madrid.
Also cheap accomodation in Paris (central) is there a web site?
Thx in advance

I am arriving SJPP late evening 15 April. I am English but live in southern Spain. I am meeting my daughter in SJPP, who is travelling from the UK via Toulouse.

Would be interested in sharing a taxi from Biarritz airport, but don't arrive until 19:55 on 15 April. Please get in touch if you are interested.

Am spending every spare moment on forums and checking out items I need to purchase.

There is a great deal of very useful information out there. Thanks to all who have contributed.

Best wishes to all
Maggie

Deb:

Greetings. I started from SJPP last April 5, and finished May 3 in Santiago. Contrary to someone who posted that they had 34 days of no rain (during a Fall trip?), it seems like my daughter and I had approx. 25 days of rain or snow in '12. Be prepared, and pack a warmer sleeping bag than many Forum recommendations. Regardless, you will love the journey. The fellowship of the Camino is a beautiful thing. Can't wait to return. Buen Camino! - Marc

We started 23 April 2012 and walked to Orisson in the sun though it did rain that evening. We started the next morning at 7.30am in drizzle but by the time we reached Pic d'Orisson there was snow. From then on we had a blizzard and the route was closed by the French authorities. A really exciting climb but we did have all the correct clothing. It was cold and wet until we reached Burgos with just the odd part days of sun but much rain. If you have the correct equipment you will be fine, have a wonderful time and 'Buen Camino!'
