Belgian pilgrim died on the Camino.

Unfortunately a Belgian pilgrim died due to heatstroke and general failing of organs.
He was a dad of two adult children.He was a teacher in Leuven.

Zanger en acteur Iwein Segers verliest broer na zonneslag en orgaanfalen in Spanje

Lander Segers (48), broer van zanger en acteur Iwein, is in Spanje overleden. Tijdens een staptocht naar Compostela werd hij geveld door een zonneslag en hij stierf een dag later in het ziekenhuis aan orgaanfalen.

We are walking now, leaving at 5am, but tomorrow's plan is nearer 4. We have met one pilgrim who had overheated and is still recovering. Temperature was taken to check for covid and he was 2 higher than normal. Take care all

I'm so sad to read this notice. My heart goes to his family and friends who supported and cheered him on, on his Way.
No one is immune to heatstroke. Please, everyone, be careful. I'm tired of reading so many of these tragic reports. The heat can be brutal and we're in the middle of summer.
Again, comfort for his family and friends. It shouldn't have ended this way.

Very sad news, may he Rest in peace and rise in Glory. May our thought and prayers be with his family at this very sad and difficult time.
Please let me know if anyone knows his Name and I will arrange to have a Mass said for Him and Family in my Local Church. I will also try to have a Mass said for him by the Monks in the Monastery at Rabanal de Camion

Heartbreaking. I’m so sorry to here of another fatality in the last place you would want to experience sorrow.
 
A beautiful and touching article in the Belgian newspaper De Morgen today, actually an interview with Iwein Segers who is one of the brothers of Lander. About Lander Segers the person, about how caring and popular he was with his pupils, his friends, his bandmates, how artistic and fun he was, about plans that can now not be finished any more, and also some details about his last days in Spain and the aftermath: Interview - Beyond the loss: Iwein Segers wants to live more lovingly after the loss of brother Lander: 'His death has made me more empathetic'. Yes it is. I will try to copy the paper version later this weekend.

I was at a concert yesterday in Leuven and am almost certain I saw Iwein Segers. Certainly a gig his brother would have attended also.
