Hi! I am headed to SJPDP on the 1st of June 2016. Is the best way to get a bus to Bayonne froM Bilbao ( airport) and then the train from Bayonne to SJPDP? Thanks for any help. Jacquie

Join our full-service guided tour of the Basque Country and let us pamper you!
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
The best choice of options below are dependent on your schedule.

PESA bus from Bilbao Loiu Airport to San Sebastian/Donostia Plaza Pio XII.

PESA bus from San Sebastian Donostia to Bayonne Place de Basques. Chronoplus bus or taxi 1 km from Place de Basques to Gare Bayonne.

ALSA bus from San Sebastian to (TGV) Gare Bayonne.

Donostialdea Metro (Euskotren) from San Sebastian Amara to Hendaia. Amara is located about 700 meters from Plaza Pio XII. Hendaia is co-located with Gare d'Hendaye.

SNCF train from Gare d'Hendaye to Bayonne.

Transports64 bus #816 from Gare d'Hendaye to Place de Basques. Some buses terminate at Gare Bayonne. Chronoplus bus or taxi 1 km from Place de Basques to Gare Bayonne.

SNCF train from Gare Bayonne to SJPdP.

Or;

ALSA bus from San Sebastian to Pamplona. CONDA (ALSA) bus from Pamplona to SJPdP. Enter San Sebastian to SJPdP on ALSA website.

We took the bus and then the train and it worked out very well without any problems. I would leave another extra day in Bilbao if possible. It is a fun city and quite inexpensive.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Hi Jacquie persons! Welcome to the forum!

In addition to the options quoted by @whariwharangi on post number 2:
  • Bus from Bilbao airport to downtown Bilbao (shuttle bus that runs every 20 minutes). Bus from downtown Bilbao to Pampolona with www.autobuseslaunion.com and bus from Pamplona to SJPP with Alsa.
  • If you arrive late and want to make an overnight stay in downtown Bilbao, be aware Pesa (www.pesa.net) has some days a direct bus from downtown Bilbao to Bayonne. Take a look at the web of Pesa for more info.
