Where to stay in SJPDP- September 2024

Time of past OR future Camino
Planning for Fall 2024
After years of hoping and planning it’s real. Been reading the forum for months now. I feel like I already know some of you! You’ve already helped me so much with the nuts and bolts of planning (gear, clothing, route, luggage storage- Ivar!). Im pretty sure I wouldn’t have heard of Gronze without you. I’m also pretty sure this will be the first of many questions from me.
I will start walking September 10. I’m hoping to get recommendations where to stay for 2 nights in SJPDP: September 8 and 9th. My dearest friend accompanies me on the first stage so there are 2 of us.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Gite Bidean. Very spacious and loaded with cool household furniture. Most beds are individual twins. It’s down on the lower level, so you only have to go up the wretched hill once - to visit the Pilgrim Office for your credential.

Pics of Gite Bidean. They are closed on Sundays. I wanted to reserve for Saturday AND Sunday, He let me stay and on Sunday I had the whole place to myself.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Beilari gets my approval. They are wonderful people who know pilgrims and their needs.

Another vote for Beilari. I have stayed with them a few times and really enjoyed it.

Given that on that date last year, the number of pilgrims exceeded the number of beds in town and they had to open the fire hall, I recommend taking any lodging that will reserve for your schedule. Some don't use Booking.com; those that do, won't make all their spots available there. So break out one of the guides and get busy with email.

I stayed in the Parador. It's a little more expensive (they do offer a pilgrim rate if you sign up for their "club"), but I thought it worth a treat to myself at the end of the Frances. It's literally in the square/plaza. Great 1st floor lounge, historical ambience, and the breakfast buffet will fill you up for the entire day. Epic end to an epic journey. https://paradores.es/en/parador-de-santiago-de-compostela

Yes once I began looking I was shocked at how many places were full. Just booked an air-bnb called Chambre Garazai which looks very nice. I was disappointed that Borda was also booked so quickly booked Orisson. Whew! Planning to book as far as Pamplona.

I believe this is in Santiago and I was asking about St Jean

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
We liked it here. Good first night and a place to make new Camino friends. Don't know if you can reserve 2 nights though.
Yes you can reserve and stay for two nights. However, when we stayed there September 2022, "angels" woke us up, I think 530am or 6am, to get ready to leave and get out of the place even though we had reservations for two days/two nights. We had to stay out until they are ready for pilgrims again.

😆yes, sorry. For some reason I misread it. In SJPDP I’d recommend Gite Makila - Istayed there and it was incredible. Great place - highly recommended - right next to the pilgrims office. I read that it might be for sale - so I'm not sure if it's still in operation. Buen Camino!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
