Bus from Fromista to Orbigo or Astorga?

Hello all. I have been enjoying this wonderful forum for over a year now. What an amazing source of information it is and thank you all for being so generous with your insight and advice. As I put together my plans for a mid-May to mid-June pilgrimage, I have found the answers to many of my questions here. But I still have one.

Because I don't have quite enough time to do the entire route on foot, I was thinking to walk from Roncesvalles to Fromista, then bus it to Orbigo or Astoga, and from there, walk on to Santiago. ( I know this means I will miss Leon, but I really want to experience at least a few days on the Meseta - somehow it calls to me.....) But I don't know what the bus situation will be from Fromista to either Orbigo or Astorga. Can any of you "veterans" advise me on transportation out of Fromista? Many thanks.

Whatever travel connections you make (bus or train), you will have to go to Palencia from Fromista & then make your connection there. I took the train from Fromista to Sahagun & chose to stay overnight in Palencia before heading to Sahagun. Later, I took the train from Leon to Madrid & it also stopped at Palencia, so I know you can get a train or bus from there to Orbigo or Astorga. :)

Walk on a day beyond Fromista to Carrion de los Condes, where there´s a daily bus onward at least as far as Leon, via Sahagun. No stop required in Palencia.

Thank you both so very much for the suggestions. Reb, to you happen to know what time of day the bus leaves Carrion for Leon, or which bus company it is so I can look it up?

Sheesh, sheesh. I´m afraid I don´t have Sil´s encyclopedic knowledge of that level of detail.

I do know I sat at the little terrazo cafe sipping the Camino´s most massive gin & tonic last summer, while I waited for the 2 o´clock Menu del Dia to start up. Part of the passing entertainment was watching all the pilgrims sheepishly boarding the bus west to skip ahead. So it was probably between 1 and 2 p.m. As for the bus company? That is lost in the mists of time. Or gin, maybe. (I was running on an empty stomach, see.)
Relax. Don´t plan too hard. You´re going to get there!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hi, Sheesh,

There's a website movelia.es that has the schedules and prices of most Spanish buses. I plugged in Carrion de los Condes and Leon and saw only one bus, on Alsa, leaving at 12:50, arriving Leon at 14:39. 8,42 €. I just picked a weekday to check the schedules, and I'm sure they're different on Sat. and Sun.

I agree with Rebekah, you shouldn't worry too much about the bus routes and schedules, because there is a fair amount of traffic up and down the Camino. You'll be fine. Laurie

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Thanks to all for their suggestions. Reb, that massive Gin & tonic sounds so darn good after a walk along the meseta.

So I won't strees about my connections, just trust that all will be well and enjoy my walk.

Are you "ready" to miss Villalcazar de Sirga, Carrion, Leon ...? how many walking days do you have just for walking? May be you really thing it's noy enough to walk the whole route and it's possible to do that!!

Anyway, there's busses going and back by the route. Several years ago I had to take a bus from Sahagun to Valencia de Don Juan, when walking the Camino de Madrid

Buen Camino,

Unfortunately Kelly wrote her post in 2009 and was last on the forum July 2016.

For getting your sick friend help ask the host/hospitalero for assistence re bus schedules and stops. Perhaps you might plan to stay in Castrojeriz another night or two until your friend feels better.

Good luck to you both.

This is an old post so you will probably not see it. I’m someone who will have to take a bus as after 14 days from St J, I have developed plantar fasciitis in both heels and hobble. I feel bad as it is aside from being called sheepish. Easy to judge. Brenda
