Bus Somport to Oloron timetable?

Plan to walk in May 2015
Hello,

I can't find an answer to this anywhere yet - apologies if I've missed it.

I'm trying to find out what time the buses are from Oloron to Somport so that I can work out which train to get (travelling Paris to Oloron via Pau on May 26th) as I'd like to spend the night in Somport if possible so as to start walking early. I've found a few posts saying there are a few buses each day, and that it takes about an hour, but a timetable would be really helpful - the only links I've found no longer seem to work.

Many thanks for any help, Aliya

SNCF TER provides service from Oloron Ste Marie to Somport. I'm not sure if the service is train or bus.

There is bus service from Jaca in Spain.

Bus.

I walked that route last summer, and the buses (didn't take one LOL) are spacious, punctual, and frequent.

Reservations unnecessary, just avoid rush hour if travelling in a group.

oh BTW finding accomodation up at the Somport is likely to be trivially easy, and whilst I did not eat their menu myself, I can assure you from what I saw there that it's something to look forward to !!!

I plan to walk from Oloron-Sainte-Marie to Logrono late in May. I was very surprised the find there was train service several times a day from Pau to the other side of the mountains.
There has to be a very interesting story behind this rail service considering Franco built the enormous station in Canfranc to connect the Spanish rail system to the French rail system. Anyone know the history?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

You would be surprised. There isn't. The track was destroyed on the French side on March 27, 1970, and was never repaired. The train system operates the buses, which go through the tunnel to Canfranc, then up the mountain to Somport and the old border crossing station. Very scenic.:)

It was a creepy and sad place to see in 2013

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

As falcon wrote above, there's no train service accross that border. The SNCF offers a bus to cross the border.

If you read Spanish, this web could be interesting for you:

http://www.spanishrailways.com/2012/02/29/huesca-a-francia-por-canfranc/

and the blog I'm going to link has 4 entries about the history of the railway and of the Canfranc train station as well as recent pictures of the station. I'll provide a link to the first entry where you can find links to the rest of the entries:

http://esperandoaltren.blogspot.com/2013/02/el-canfranc-1-parte.html

If you understand spoken Spanish, this radio program about the Canfranc station may be of your interest:

P.S.: There's still train service to Canfranc but just from the Spanish side of the line.
